This was taken at 1130 yesterday. The pedestrian bridge this was taken from, Castle Walk, had its access path flooded last night, with river water backing up the approach to Underdale Road (Googlemap it). Had to walk over the depot to get home last night, and even then under the bridge by Abbey Foregate box was flooded due to surface water.

I've never seen the river so high, not even back in 2000. The town centre is completely isolated to vehicular traffic and is eeriely quiet. It will take a long time to assess and repair the damage.

Today's services remain affected as shown in TfW journey check

https://www.journeycheck.com/tfwrail/

Shrewsbury Station remains closed to services from the South (Hereford), East (Birmingham) and West (Welshpool): Network Rail advise that the flood water level under the viaduct under Shrewsbury station is at the closure mark, so the station remains closed to services from the South, East and West today. Services are able to access the station to allow passengers to travel between Shrewsbury and Chester/Crewe.

Buses will be made available to Customers travelling between Hereford and Shrewsbury in both directions.

-Buses will leave Hereford on the hour, starting at 07:00 until the end of service

-Buses will leave Shrewsbury half past the hour starting at 07:30 until the end of service

-Buses will replace trains North of Church Stretton on the Heart of Wales line.

-Buses will replace trains between Machynlleth and Shrewsbury.

We strongly advise customers to check their journey before travelling and allow additional time for your journey as road conditions may make travel significantly longer than usual.

Ticket acceptance is in place with West Midlands Trains, Cross Country and Great Western to allow passengers to travel via Bristol, Birmingham and Stafford
