Many services cancelled or delayed off Sheffield this morning. Presumably most are cancelled due to traincrew being unable to get to work due to conditions on the roads, rather than snow on the network.

A snow clearing locomotive is running over the Hope Valley from Stockport to Sheffield but seems to have become delayed in the Chinley area. Sheffield station is clogged up with DMU’s.

Merseyrail are also struggling this morning. Appears that attempts to operate south of Rock Ferry on the Chester/Ellesmere Port routes have difficult, with a limited bus replacement being offered.

There are also delays on other routes, though most seem to be operating.

TfW's journey check says the line is closed through Gobowen due to a landslip. Maybe related to the weather but it doesn't say more.

TPE have now said do not travel between Manchester and Dewsbury. As I'm currently in Manchester needing to get east, I've decided to make a start on the journey home to Newcastle before it gets late and people start inevitably getting stuck and told there's absolutely no alternatives.

It may have been weather-related, but not snow, it happened around 1730 yesterday

There appears to be overrunning engineering work in the Rotherham, Swinton and Mexborough areas preventing any trains from Sheffield to Doncaster or Leeds (via Moorthorpe). Information is woeful.

A WCRC 37 reached Sheffield and is now heading back over the Hope Valley

I’m awaiting a Lincoln service on 1B but a Transpennine Service is also due on 1B.

Our weather warnings of Armageddon haven’t as yet materialised. No more than half an inch of snow and it’s melting. Roads clear. Temperature today forecast to go up to 10degC so any snow will soon be gone.

Here in North Nottinghamshire we have had wintry showers all night. It's now more sleet than anything.
However maximum temp today is 2degrees. Maximum all week is 3-4

That depends where you are. Here in Yorkshire the area is almost at a standstill. RealTimeTrains shows many trains not yet departed and those which are running are often severely delayed. The general map on bustimes.org shows almost no buses running west of the Ouse and north of the Calder with the Yorkshire Wolds also badly affected. It was noticeable yesterday that people had taken notice of the forecast as local shops were very busy with lots of empty shelves.

Yep, Leeds might as well be a depot with a McDonald's for all the units standing at platform there.

I get the impression from other forums that the snow was less severe than forecast in the south and midlands. In London there was a little covering at around midnight, but it had all gone by the morning. Even in the midlands, I think there may only be 1 or 2 cm that had pretty much all gone by the morning. So I doubt there would be any snow or ice related disruption in the south or midlands.

Here in Bolton it's been the heaviest fall for over 10 years; we haven't had much since the early 2010's but last night's was significant. Trains are bad normally on Sundays, all over the place today and the usual "do not travel" message from Northern. There's also a football match in Liverpool today I believe!

Here in St Albans a surprising couple of inches+ and now pouring with rain. Trains seems fine.

Nothing the cheaper of the media "forecast" - if not weather armageddon , then no "snow bomb" - a pathetic term , which could surely be handled by a "snow czar"

Currently at Bradford Interchange where it is still snowing and everything is now cancelled.

Northern tannoy announcements are saying “Do Not Travel today” due to the snow.

Tickets will be valid tomorrow and Tuesday.

Darlington/Aycliffe woke up to 4/5 inches.
Trains Darlington to Bishop cancelled.

ECML seems to be doing fine, but heavy delays on XC/TPE coming from the Leeds direction.

Tree now down between Doncaster and Sheffield. 0926 Cleethorpes - Liverpool sitting at DON awaiting developments. Think this is the first train in the SHF direction this morning not to be cancelled..

Snow in Durham but it is slowly melting now with fine rain.

I can't help feeling that the BBC missed a trick last night by not basing their weather forecaster in a lighthouse......

Got to Stalybridge and told no buses, go back to Manchester. Train to Manchester departed in the meantime, bus replacement staff (including at least one TPE manager) nonchalantly wandered off and hid again.

Thankfully the ticket office staff member has come and unlocked the heated waiting room on Platform 4 and said he'd let us know of any updates. No trains are running east of Manchester either so going back probably wouldn't be too useful either.

Edit - just over £21 for an Uber to Huddersfield (surprisingly cheap IMO) which will hopefully get me to the right side of the Pennines without incident. Stalybridge was largely deserted with just a few people heading to Manchester so most have heeded the warning. If I didn't have to be at work in the morning I'd have probably stayed put as well.

Not everything - Grand Central seem to be the only people running from there by the looks of it!

NRE suggests that no TPE rail replacements are running. I can understand why.
Yup, the Holmfirth Road (where my Uber is going) is just about passable with a car but I can see why the double deck coach sat at Stalybridge wasn't going to attempt it.

I don't think there'll be anything over the Pennines all day. The roads on the Manchester side look deceptively fine but they get worse the further east you go.

With no TPE buses going to Manchester Preston is predictably bedlam with little to no taxis available

I was going to travel from Doncaster to Sheffield return today but all services were getting progressively cancelled "due to heavy snow" according to the National Rail app.

Engineering work? Aren't Northern still running hourly 6 car trains to/from Buckshaw Parkway? And buses from there to/from Preston? Or has that now all fallen over?

The 12.10 departure is snowed in platform one. Yet to depart.

Just seen the BBC News story that Bradford has had the heaviest snow accumulation in the UK. No wonder nothing is running.

Where I live it’s a good 30 centimetres in places.

I was looking at this morning's trains.

When I posted the ECS was between Leeds and Bradford - however it looks like it's still in the Bramley area and the maps show nothing in platform 1?

The unit that was stabled in the wall siding overnight departed a few minutes late without issue this morning.

In what way do you mean "snowed in"?

I did some digging.

As I thought - there is no unit snowed in at Bradford. The ECS has stopped short of a fallen tree between Bramley and Pudsey.

Where did your "snowed in" information come from?
