Any one on the course that’s starts end of January? I got my contract last week!
Not me, I’m on end of Feb course! Waiting for contract now! Exciting isn’t it!

Did your contract state how long each section of the course is? And etc

Or give a predicted end date?

Ah okay cool, only someone else said you apparently get an predicted end date.

Also, have you had to provide references yet? And if so how many

I was just asked to provide references for the past 5 years and I’ve been with my current employer over 10 years so I just submitted the one

So an update from my assessment day today.

There were 12 people who attended and we were split into 2 groups. One group done the computer tests first and the other done the paper ones, before hopefully swapping in the afternoon.

I was in the paper grouping.
Test 1 was the Group Bourdon dots - a lot more separate than the practice ones I’d been doing. 5 different pages. I thought I done ok but the feedback was that even though I was 100% accurate, I just didn’t do enough lines.

Test 2 was TEA-Occ test - hands must remain under desk until writing the answer - The first part was counting just the low tones among high ones. The second part it was a lot more straightforward than I expected it would be - just going through a large sheet of paper with a list of names and circling the symbols which had 2x the same. The third part combined the two parts with just counting tones. I finished expecting to fail this one but feedback was that I passed.

Test 3 was TRP pt 1 - information from the text and audio on braking system, we were given a scrap piece of paper to make notes etc which was then taken from us during test. We then sat for a few minutes before starting - this I found was one of the easier tests and had time to re-check my answers. Feedback was that I passed.

Test 4 was TRP Pt 2 - it was very similar to the practice material, there were 4x circular panels with dials, pointing to different colours but also different numbers, the instructions are given clearly beforehand and also there’s a section to practice. We had 8 minutes to do 43 questions and I think I’d got up to around 25. Again feedback was that I Passed this one.

Both groups were then sat in the same room whilst they were marking and sadly my name was called. Interestingly 2 of us both failed the group bourdon exactly the same way - 100% accuracy but not quick enough.

The computer group had lost 1 person before they had even finished all the tests. The paper ones were all done and marked together at the end.

Hope this helps anyone still waiting for their assessment and good luck !

Does anyone know if I would have to resit those ones that I was told I’d passed in the future?

Just to add that I’m not too disappointed as it’s not like I haven’t got a well paid job or anything ( current job is on par pay wise with southeastern.

It was good to see how far I could actually progress and in some ways I’m glad it was just the speed and not the accuracy that need to work on
Did you have to do the VSE test, as I thought SE were enhanced??

Hi everyone
I had my drivers assessment today at Tonbridge, there was 10 of us. Six did the computer tests while the other four including myself did the written tests.
The group bourdon, TEA-OCC and the TRP1 and 2 tests were not quite as daunting as i thought they might have been, although my hands were trembling while doing it.
After we’d finished we went back to the rest room and that’s is where we lost the first of our quartet. The other group of six had lost four, so they were down to two, so out of the ten there was now five.
Next we did the computer tests, the looking at the grey square test was quite hard as you was concentrating a full 30 mins and it did seem to drag. Next was the visual test with the street scenes and you only got a split second to see what was there, it was hard but not too hard. Then there was the two handed test with the red dot that you had to manoeuvre around a course while trying very hard not to go outside the lines.
After we’d all finished the three of us went back to the rest room where we met up with the other two, and it was good news as we’d all passed, so the gang of five was still five.
Next was the VES test, so it was back to the computer room for this and this consisted of three tests. The first was following a blue dot around a course and clicking error everytime it did something it wasn’t supposed to do, next came a shape test where you had to match the shapes, sometimes they came in twos, other times threes. The last one was by far the hardest and you had to do both.
After we’d all finished we all went back to the rest room again and that’s is where five became two and i was one of the three that didn’t make it.
I wished the last two all the best and then left. So i have six months to wait before i can so the VES test again for the second and final time.

Sorry I meant VSE test

Likewise. Railway recruitment is notoriously slow and it isn't uncommon to have to wait a number of years some times.

I originally applied back in June and i had my assessment on the 11th in which i failed on the VSE test.
I have got no idea how they are working this on who gets their assessment and when, the only thing i can say is just be patient and they will get in contact with you.
You’ll get an email with a link so you can choose the date, i had a choice of four dates and you just pick the one that’s best for you.
Just bare in mind they had nearly 5,000 applicants that they need to get assessed.

I was also on the Wednesday assessment day, and was told that I had to wait six months to have another go at the tests I didn't pass. Emailed to confirm, and I've just got this back. So I'm not sure what's going on?

'Thank you for your email to discuss. You would have to resit the whole assessment day. Also please note, the rules for sitting the tests have changed so you now need to wait 1 year from initial assessment to your 2nd attempt (hopefully this was explained by your assessor on the day).'

That’s news to me, i was told that i’d only have to wait 6 months and not 12.
I find it hard to believe that the assessors would not have known that at the time.

Snap. I emailed them asking if I had to resit the TEA -Occ and both parts of the TRP tests as I passed those and only failed on the group bourdon dots.

They replied on the 6th Dec saying ‘As you were unsuccessful in one part of the test, that would mean you’d have to resit them all after a minimum of 6 months (as the national standard).’

So what they are saying is, if you fail one of the written or computer tests then you have to re-sit that whole part of the test.
Seems a bit harsh if you’ve already passed the other two, but i suppose they are the rules.

I was told that on the day too, and that I wouldn't have to resit the bits I'd passed.

It might be worth you emailing them to double check too, because, like you say, it seems strange that the assessors would get it that wrong, and surely it's not just a different rule for me.

Was you in the computer group, i think the six of you had already gone in when i arrived, there was four of us in the written group.
I did email them regarding what i had already passed, and they said what I had done was to national standard, it’s the VSE that brings up to enhanced.
I think i will email them on wether it is 6 or 12 months.
I wonder if anyone else has had this?

I was, yeah. As far as I can see, this just seems to have happened to me, unless all of us were told the wrong information on the day? Let me know what they say.

RSSB have literally just changed the rules around psychometrics. It will now be a 12 month wait between assessments even if you only need to re sit one. Fail the next then would be a 5 year wait to do them again

I see. At the risk of being thick, does this mean you get more than two lives now? Surely the first assessment, the resit 12 months later and another one five years later is three assessments?

Yes, it’s now 3 but only for those who haven’t failed twice already. So if someone did it last year and failed for the second time they get no more chances. Let’s say someone did it last week and failed for first time then they have 2 more if that makes sense?

Hey, you got your contract yet? Just wondering

Hey! Sorry, not logged on to the message board in a while. I haven’t had my contract yet, still waiting on it at the moment. How about you?

I also just caught your earlier message to me about the training centre. I’m not sure where I will be going for it, I assumed I would probably have to go to the Orpington one as my depot is Dartford as I think I read something on here it’s based on where your depot is. Although recruitment seemed to suggest to me that it would actually just be based on start date as to which training centre will have the course starting. Did they say much to you about that side of things?

So if I am understanding this correctly, I now have to wait 12 months before i can get to resit the VSE test

Definitely based on start date. On my course quite a few years ago it was in Ashford but there were Dartford, Orpington, Charing Cross and Ashford drivers on it.

Hi all,

I have two questions. Firstly has anyone had any contact from SE yet that have applied for Dover?

Secondly where/what is the best material for practicing?

Many thanks
