Just a quick question, I've done a search online but not found anything - what stock do Southern use on their peak time services to Guildford? I'm planning on catching one of these from Leatherhead to Guildford tomorrow, and was just wondering what to expect.

Thanks!

2E95 08:16 Guildford-London Victoria is booked for a 4 car 455 as is
2S96 16:37 London Victoria-Guildford and 2S63 18:22 Guildford-Victoria.

2U95 06:39 Sutton-Guildford and 2U98 07:25 Guildford-London Bridge are booked for an 8 car 377.
2U91 17:29 London Bridge-Guildford and 2U92 19:04 Guildford-Sutton is booked for an 8 car 455.

Services are DOO between London Bridge/Victoria and Epsom, where a conductor works the train for stations beyond to/from Guildford.

You missed 2S52 0636 Victoria to Guildford which is the down working that forms 2E95.

Thanks guys - I'm travelling on 2U91/2, so looks like it's a 455.

I'm presuming these are the only Southern 455 workings involving a guard?

Plenty of guards going to Portsmouth/ Southampton.

Why do you think southern don't have guards?

I'm well aware that the majority of Southern services outside of London have guards. If you check my original post, you'll see I was asking specifically about Southern Class 455 workings - as these are normally work DOO routes.

The WLL shuttles as far as Shepherds Bush or Olympia have guards as DOO isn't allowed on that line, that's it though.

I think 455s work some services from London Victoria via Sutton to Horsham, which run DOO as far as Dorking and then with a guard to Horsham.

2S96 and 2S63 are booked for a 4 car 377 now, changed in December I believe.

Its not often it happens now, but 455s can end up at Horsham and yes they do need conductors as you say.

I have seen 2 456s coupled together in platform 2 at Guildford in the last year.

456s can end up on any 455 diagram.

And vice versa, as I found out last night while waiting for the 1832 London Bridge - Dorking; booked 456x2+455 but turned up as 2x455.
