Rails squealing particularly on the southbound line seem particularly loud right now, is there a lubricating point that has run dry?

Have you noticed the dirty cab sides on units where the on board lubricators on leading wheel set are not aligned properly adding to 'flange squeal ? IMG_8309.jpegIMG_8351.jpeg

That is new to me Class 700s with rail flange lubricators. Isn't that a bit of an issue having both Rail flange lubricators "on board" and affixed to the track? Could cause major traction issues with too much application of grease. The brown marks seen beneath the cab ends has generally be thought of caused by the air flow around the cab ends. Also for the rail flange lubrication to be affectve, it would need every wheel set to have one, no sense in lubricating just the leading set. Track rail lubricators, as each wheel set passes over it, "button" is depress and an amount of grease with graphite in (graphite being the lubricant) is deposited on the running edge of the rail and is picked up by the wheel set flange which then spreads it along the curve of the running rail, reducing metal to metal contact. Too much application can cause slipping. Thus also have "on board" applicators would risk this.
