I must say Kilmarnock Bus Station is pretty poor for information on services. No screens listing live departures or timetables on the bus stops.

Ayr and Kilmarnock bus stations really aren’t nice places to wait I’ve found. They really need a refresh.

In passing, though a different Stagecoach are the main users and Fife Council run them, the bus stations in Dunfermline, Glenrothes, Kirkcaldy, Leven and St Andrews are, relatively speaking, a pleasure to use. So it can be done.

Since the new owners, they do seem a lot more lazy. Using only ticket machine data to plan bus networks rather than listening to local feedback or using their noggin to see what will and won't work. Everything goes via the central customer service who were great to start with, now you don't really get replies. Auto generated timetables are rife right now with no variation in journey time from 5am-peak time-midday etc. Wouldn't surprise me if they have increased the margin that they want from each route. Historically it seemed Stagecoach wanted less money for a route but now, with these load of cuts, I'd say they are wanting more for their money now, tightening their belts and demanding more off routes while putting in no effort to get passenger numbers up.

I've got the feeling that old Stagecoach thought it was beneficial to maintain control of an area by running a route at breakeven to stop someone else being a bus operator in their area (and therefore a Potential Threat) and doing it instead, and that new Stagecoach thinks every bus on the road should be being profitable and has no such concerns about allowing the growth of potential competitors. Where pre covid they seemed like unassailable giants that could never be taken on, suddenly a lot of their operations look potentially vulnerable.

Does anyone know how long SPT have provided funding for Western Buses to operate the X36 between Ardrossan and Glasgow?
I feel that a 17.15 last departure from Glasgow is way too early to be either useful or attractive to passengers.

Meanwhile SPT fund a service 25A/B between Beith and some obscure new build estate in Irvine called Montgomery Park. Utterly ridiculous as a decent connection between Glasgow and the Garnock Valley is more likely to be used than running empty double deckers to Irvine filled with fresh air.

SPT really knows how to get things so wrong. It wouldn't be as bad if it wasn't taxpayer's money they were squandering!

As per reply to the same comment on the SPT thread, they don’t fund any journeys to/from Glasgow on the X36.

More electric buses entering service in March:

Stagecoach West Scotland unveiled its fleet of 27 fully electric buses at an official launch event today (20 February) at the historic Robert Burns Birthplace – Burns Cottage.

This major investment of around £15.7 million sees 25 Volvo BZL single-deck buses, the first to operate in the UK added to the West Scotland electric fleet. In addition, two Alexander Dennis Limited (ADL) BYD single-deck buses will be introduced, taking the total ADL fleet to 17.

Local communities will benefit from 48 electric buses being used on local routes around Ayrshire as the operator makes significant progress toward reducing its emissions and air pollution.

At the launch, guests, including Siobhian Brown MSP were able to get a first glance at the new electric buses and chatted with employees from Stagecoach about this revolution in bus technology.

Stagecoach West Scotland Managing Director Fiona Doherty said: “This is an exciting day for Stagecoach as we launch our new fleet of electric buses, which will serve communities in Ayr, Kilmarnock and Irvine with zero-emission public transport. This multimillion-pound investment is part of our strategy to decarbonise our fleet and bring state-of-the-art bus travel to our customers in the urban areas we serve. Bus travel is one of the greenest forms of transport available and we encourage everyone to leave their cars at home and try our new electric buses.”

Stagecoach welcomed the investment in new electric buses for Ayrshire, supported by the Scottish Government’s Zero Emission Bus Challenge Fund (ScotZEB).

Minister for Transport Jenny Gilruth said: With this significant introduction of 27 new electric buses, Stagecoach continues to demonstrate a real commitment to help meet Scotland’s world leading climate change targets.

“I’m pleased that the Scottish Government has been able to support the ambitions of Stagecoach West Scotland, as part of our Mission Zero for Transport, by providing £8 million through our Scottish Zero Emission Bus Scheme. This is in addition to a further 25 electric buses introduced by Stagecoach for Inverness, supported with £5.8 million in funding support from government.

“Choosing bus is already a fantastic choice for our environment. Zero emission buses offer even more benefits. Communities across Ayrshire will benefit from improved air quality and reduced noise pollution, helping more people to choose bus.”

The launch is part of Stagecoach’s drive to target a net zero UK bus fleet by 2035. The bus operator has invested in installing 21 new charging stations during recent upgrades to their Kilmarnock and Ayr depots.

Set to hit the roads in March 2023, locals living in Ayr, Kilmarnock and Irvine can experience the latest electric bus technology. The buses will operate from morning to night on a single daily charge with no engine noise or emissions. The state-of-the-art fleet offers the best facilities, including USB charging points, app, and contactless onboard payment.

Domenico Bondi, Managing Director of Volvo Bus UK & Ireland, explains: “Stagecoach West Scotland is a prestigious UK launch customer for the new Volvo BZL Electric. They know precisely what they want from an OEM partner, and they expect a strategic-level supplier to understand their needs and support their long-term goals, with a focus on sustainability, safety, reliability and passenger comfort.

“It’s a terrific order to win, and we are confident these new vehicles will perform fantastically well across Ayrshire, providing a solid platform for sustainable and efficient public transport.”

The new electric buses will reduce Stagecoach’s net carbon impact by 1,433 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2e) per year compared to like-for-like diesels.

If only 10 people, who would travel 8,000 miles per year by car swapped to the new all-electric buses, the carbon footprint would reduce further by approximately 602 tCO2e per year.

Marie Connell, National Account Manager at Alexander Dennis, said: “We are delighted to continue to support Stagecoach as it transitions to a zero-emission bus fleet across Scotland. Our BYD ADL Enviro200EV midibuses are a great fit for services in Ayrshire, with 15 already in service in Kilmarnock joined by a further pair of buses now. Customers will love the smooth acceleration, air conditioning and comfortable Alexander Dennis SmartSeats, while drivers will benefit from a familiar vehicle. Thanks to the Scottish Government’s support through ScotZEB, these buses have helped to underpin skilled jobs and apprenticeships in the UK bus manufacturing industry.”

Stagecoach is on target for a zero-emission UK bus fleet by 2035 and has introduced new electric buses across many parts of the country, including one of Europe’s biggest investments in e-buses in Manchester. A further 159 new electric buses will be introduced in 2023, including those in Inverness, bringing the total to 343.

The Scottish Government has set a legally binding target to achieve net zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2045. Transport has a critical role to play in the economy reaching net zero, as rising car use has resulted in a rise in carbon emissions from the sector.

I hear ayr depot is getting the 2 new Enviro200EVs and Kilmarnock's 71-plate batch.

Any thoughts on route they will be used?
Presume mainly just all the locals - would be good to see them stretch to Glasgow on Ser 4 but doubt range is sufficient

How many depots/outstations do Stagecoach West Scotland have ?

Difficult to define what counts as a depot and outstation these days.

Ardrossan, Brodick, Ayr, Cumbernauld, Dumfries, Stranraer and Whithorn are depots (at least licensed for more than a handful of vehicles)

Sanquhar (1 bus) and Biggar (3 buses) are fairly small outstations - not sure on Biggar's future with the 101/102 contract being given to Houstouns. There are others on the license but not sure any others have vehicles any more - unless someone can correct me!

Kilmarnock missing from your list, which is the "main" depot if you like, with paintshop facilities. There is also an outstation at Cronberry (Cumnock) of about 10 vehicles per night. This happened not too long after Cumnock depot closed after they realised how much dead mileage there was per week.....

Talk of anything being acquired by West Coast Motors / Border Buses is surely just speculation, but if it happened I think it would be more likely to be the rural parts, maybe Dumfries, Stranraer, Whithorn and perhaps Arran. Can't see Stagecoach giving up Ayr, Kilmarnock or Ardrossan and Cumbernauld would not fit with WCM.

Spot on, I can't believe I missed Kilmarnock off!

Is the Cumnock the one in the Haulage yard? Mainly does 42 early morning runs?

Does anyone know what the bus at Sanquhar does please? There is no evidence of starts or finishes on the 246 timetable.

It does 246 runs as far as I know. Bustimes seems to show it starting on 06.25 service from Cumnock.
Why would it be oustationed at Sanquhar if it commences service from Cumnock, where there is another outstation?

Have to ask Stagecoach of their reasoning - might just offer more flexibility if needed. Nothing seems to start from Sanquhar these days - most runs that start and end there continue on to Cumnock or Kirkconnel.

This seems to be the track of the stationed vehicle - runs into Cumnock first thing - https://bustimes.org/vehicles/stws-36705?date=2023-02-23

Yes indeed, sorry didn’t mean it to come across as me suggesting you were wrong. Just seems like a bizarre thing for Stagecoach to do. Maybe they’ve a driver lives in Sanquhar and doesn’t fancy the commute

Was that not down to changes to the SPT tendered journeys?
Yes; the 358, 20:30 to Stranraer from Girvan was removed, however the Ayr to Girvan portion of the specific journey (58 departing Ayr at 19:20) was removed by Stagecoach themselves.

There is also no Scotrail service from Ayr to Girvan between ~18:30 and ~20:30 so there is no alternative form of travel.

Presumably it was only there as a placing journey for the contracted route, so removal of that trip by SPT, meant it went too.
