Conwy Valley Line shut today. Which is interesting as we had no problem on the branch on the last train last night..
DO NOT TRAVEL WARNING 21 October 2023 Due to severe disruption across the CrossCountry network today caused by flooding passengers are advised NOT to travel today unless absolutely essential. Passengers may use their tickets for travel tomorrow. |
Noting my previous comments in the other now-closed thread, northbound WCML services through Carlisle, both Avanti and Transpennine, have been running largely to schedule since the start of service this morning.I keep seeing things about no Avanti services north of Preston - and there are some cancellations, but then theres also 1S34 just heading to Glasgow through Wishaw…

It looks like Birmingham to Bristol is still flooded at the moment. It doesn't look good I'm afraid.
Edit: Having said that- their "Journey Check" page only states disruption expected until 09:00 today..
Probably not, as it's on the freight-only line.Dove holes tunnel in the Peak District was called yesterday. Anybody know how to find out if it’s still closed?
My mum is travelling from Leicester to Exeter, now going via Reading and changing there.

It looks like there is line flooding somewhere around here (Bromsgrove, but unsure exactly where)...
Looks like Chesterfield - Derby is still blocked as well. The only services through Chesterfield so far today have been Northern's Leeds - Nottingham services, which themselves have been turning back at Alfreton so far.Disruption certainly hasn't ended at 09:00.
It looks like there is line flooding somewhere around here (Bromsgrove, but unsure exactly where), as Worcester - Droitwich - Kidderminster services are still running, as are the Redditch - Birmingham services. Nothing currently operating between Barnt Green, Bromsgrove and Droitwich/W Parkway.
There is one rogue 09:55 Shrub Hill - Bromsgrove - Bham showing as running still but that must be an error.
Unsurprising given the incredible amount of rain we had here yesterday and the resulting flooding in nearby Cleobury which sadly took someone's life.

Due to a river flooding the railway between Leeds and Shipley all lines are blocked. Disruption is expected until 04:00 22/10.

Network Rail East Midlands on twitter shows the tracks at Breadsall north of Derby still submerged.Looks like Chesterfield - Derby is still blocked as well. The only services through Chesterfield so far today have been Northern's Leeds - Nottingham services, which themselves have been turning back at Alfreton so far.
now going via Reading and changing there.
Not surprising considering the river Derwent is currently at 3.58m in the city which is 23cm higher than the highest level recorded in 2019. Normally it is less than 1m.Network Rail East Midlands on twitter shows the tracks at Breadsall north of Derby still submerged.
And frustratingly Northern don't seem to want to run any Skipton - Leeds trains between Skipton and Shipley or operate the Skipton - Bradford half hourly. This means the only service during the middle of the day is the now hourly Skipton - Bradford and this is despite them telling people to travel via Bradford to get to Leeds.Northern are advising that all services between Shipley and Leeds (so affecting all Triangle services bar Bradford to Ilkley/Skipton) will be cancelled until 0400 on Sunday at the earliest:
Flood warning for River Trent at Catton, Barton under Needwood and Branston Water Park
seen the pictures of the section at Stowmarket, looks like the River Gipping has taken a new course ! certainly more canal than railway !Proving trips now running Norwich to Great Yarmouth/Lowestoft at 20mph.
Not looking good at the moment for Norwich-Ipswich following flooding in various locations not least the river Gipping bursting its banks at Stowmarket. Diversionary route via Ely is already RR buses west of Thetford as booked engineering block this weekend.

just sent a coupleBeen sent a couple from a mate but NR recently posted on X too. Remember it bad there in the 90s.
just sent a couple
Just grateful that route is open. Apparently there is a Limited replacement bus between Birmingham and Bristol, but that would have probably taken longer than going via Rdg.An incredidbly popular plan, unsurprisingly!
Indeed! As platform 2 is both bidirectional and not currently used, there's nothing stopping the Skipton > Leeds services from terminating at Shipley in platform 2, and waiting for an appropriate return path. Of course there may well also be a shortage of units north of the flood. And frustratingly Northern don't seem to want to run any Skipton - Leeds trains between Skipton and Shipley or operate the Skipton - Bradford half hourly. This means the only service during the middle of the day is the now hourly Skipton - Bradford and this is despite them telling people to travel via Bradford to get to Leeds.
Completion of the flood protection work at Kirkstall can't come soon enough.
