Having seen that there were 37's operating a couple of service trains up the Rhymney branch last year, I was transported back to 2005. I made a special effort to have a trip to Rhymney then, thinking that would be my last chance of getting some serious diesel haulage on local services. Of course I was completely wrong with 37's popping up all over the place since.

It was a cracking day out on Sat 28 May 2005 as I killed two birds with one stone by having a ride on the mid-Wales line too. I thought that would disappear as well, but fortunately was wrong on that too!. The day's itinerary was Birmingham-Shrewsbury-Swansea-Cardiff-Rhymney-Cardiff and back to Birmingham via Cheltenham, all on service trains with a very reasonably priced selection of Advance and walk-up tickets.

I took a few photos and am now trying to put detailed captions to them. I know I caught
2R42 the 16:59 Cardiff-Rhymney hauled by 37425 in BR blue large logo livery.
On the way we passed 37411 in BR green near Heath. This then turned up at Rhymney on the next train from Cardiff (presumably the last one). 37411 then hauled the last train from Rhymney to Cardiff. What I'm looking for are the headcodes and departure times from either Rhymney or Cardiff of the three other trains I encountered besides 2R42.

That's even better than I was looking for as it has the actual workings from the day. It also shows that there was a third diagram with 37408 on the front which I must have passed twice, but didn't photo. For some reason I thought I'd caught the last working of the day, but I hadn't, which means that two 37's and sets must have stayed overnight and Sunday at Rhymney in order to work the Monday morning service.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
