Amusingly very few of the current signatories represent constituencies served by SWT.......
That's normal. It's colleagues from the same party supporting the one that has requested the motion.

LibDem MPs are after all rather thin on the ground in the SWR area and many of the local MPs have probably never been on a train so couldn't care less.

Not sure about that; you’d be surprised how many London MPs take public transport, especially from outer London.

Agreed. One of Dorset's MPs used to work for SWT for many years and is generally regarded as knowledgeable on railway matters at least......

Fair point! Although they were in charge when the original ORCATS raid took place, and I doubt SWR would have gone down that road.
ORCATS raid? I don’t think this debate is specifically about the Bristol removal is it? This is written as a reaction to the wider Dec 2022 service reductions, I think.

Chris Loder is a great advocate of railways & an ex railwayman.
We are lucky to have him in parliament with personal access to those in power, & he is popular in the constituency.

Having experienced the morning peak since early Summer and witnessed how passenger numbers have increased in the past couple of months I think the proposed reductions are a grave error.

Through Richmond in the morning peak there is already crush loading. Taking into account that more and more people are inevitably going to be going back to offices between now and next December the measly two extra (stopping) services through Richmond are going to be completely inadequate.

And I'm assuming the 701s won't be in service by then because I think that's a safe bet.

Hahahahahahahaha

I’ve just fallen off my chair laughing.

He knows exactly how the railway works and yet still takes cheap shots to get a popularity vote.

the only good thing he has done is advocate for more train services through Dorset and Devon, but his government are the ones hell bent on reducing the service.

I’d dispute that. Having used SWR yesterday on Reading trains in morning and evening peaks, I had a spare seat next to me on both the up (0715 from Richmond) and down (1750 from Waterloo). Nowhere near crush loaded even with the thinned out service.

Sorry, but I am not making it up. I have been on these trains. It's my own personal experience. A guard friend of mine also said there are loadings problems through Richmond.

Perhaps next week I'll post a photo.

Commuting on Fridays is significantly lower than Tuesday - Thursday. Try again next Wednesday and report back.

Perhaps they need to run extra trains on certain days of the week when it is busier.
