40 days isn't really enough, 40 years is a bit extreme although if the theft had lead to an accident then I would agree. I also agree that one day they will try to cut the wrong cable and get a nasty shock (literally), then that would teach them for being theiving scumbags, and if widely enough reported serve as a deterrant for any other pikeys wanting to try thier luck.
You'd think 40 years would be one hell of a deterrent, but probably not. Nexus are replacing the copper wires with some sort of polymer mixture so in the future if they do nick the wires they'll get little money for them but will still cause the same amount of disruption.
A lot of the time they will cut into fibre optics, which are almost worthless from the thieves point of view, but more expensive to repair or replace from the owners point of view.
I hear even the Black Country Museum has had some of it's tram overhead stolen, so can't operate their trams at the moment.
In Johno's britain, railway cable theft will be punishable by death. The lives they put at risk is absolutely astrronomical, not to mention the lost money from disruption. They are highly organised and are making a mint out of it, they deserve no mercy
send the scum who do this up the green mile just like inn the film they wanna put other peoples lives in danger then they sacrifice there own life, just like the do with ticket dodgers name and shame nice big mugshots of them in key areas of the system makes them feel so small. sure a big mugshot of the hanging of the qe bridge would make them feel small
