Hi Everybody :D

I've been a long time lurker on this forum as I have been looking to get into the rail business and 'join the family' as it were. Unfortuantely vacancies are few and far between and I can only go for the Underground or Overground due to location.

The good news is that I have a assessment centre position this week for Tfl, but i was wondering if some kind soul who has already been through it (There was a HUGE drive last year and I am at the back-end/revival of that) could give me some guidance.

I know the role play will be tough and takes out a lot of people (I was one of them a few years ago :() so I'm quite nervous about this. However I am dreading the interview part, if i get through, as there are such a variety of topics they could ask about. I do have a number of examples at the ready but was wondering if any one could provide some guidance on what topics to specifically prepare around.

This has turned into quite an essay so sorry for that and thank you in advance for any guidance provided:p

Is the job actually with TfL, or is it with London Underground or Lorol (London Overground Rail Operations Ltd), as this will depend on the answers given?

The 'new' TfL behaviours used to be the LU behaviours. I was more trying to get across the clarification as the roles undertaken by TfL staff will differ from those undertaken by LU staff. I don't know if TfL have any CSAs although I often come across their customer-facing staff in areas I don't expect (like the Travel Information Centres!)

The five behaviours are Active, Accountable, Fair & Consistent, Direct, and Collaborative. Customer service and reliability are important issues. If you do a competency based interview perhaps try and get across these points in any answer you give.

I have to confess I'm not aware what goes on at an assessment centre for LU CSAs other than this.

The process is, telephone interview (you are asked the same competency based questions that were on the application over the phone basically)

You will If successful then be invited to Ashfield house (west Kensington) you will sit some basic numerical and comprehension assessments, again if successful you will continue on to the role play assessments. For this you will go into a room with an assessor, you will be briefed on the scenario and given a few minutes to gather your thoughts and plan. The actor will then enter the room and the scenario begins. You need to show a calm, confident and customer focused approach. You need to show and prove you are doing everything in your imaginary power to resolve the situation in hand.

If successful you will attend the interview, which is competency based and will focus on certain scenarios but will generally sit inline with the application based questions. It's always nice to have a few competencies for each scenario.

Hope that helps
