Unable to decide whether to travel North or South on this line we wait for the first train.

This is heading South and leaves at 1500 and we travel on something of a rarity despite all our travelling - a narrow gauge railway - a first?
First or not this IOM Steam Railway service takes us to Castletown where we alight at 1507 on Saturday afternoon.

We leave at 1835 and arrival in Douglas is 1845 on Saturday evening.

I believe the southern terminal of the Horse Tramway is (just) within walking distance, and we get the 17:00 Horse Tramway service P to Derby Castle, MER Station, arriving at 17:15 Saturday evening.

Genuine horse power, think that's new for us.

So from Steam to horse to electric tram. By my reckoning the summit of Snaefell is still possible using the August Saturday timetable (tables D&G).

From the terminus at Derby Castle in Douglas we join the 1740 tram operated by the Manx Electric Railway and travel to Laxey where we arrive at 1810 on Saturday evening.

As this is a terminus we can head back down on the return journey. That isn't for 35 minutes so we take in the mountain air and the views.

Refreshed we board the Snaefell Mountain Railway tram and depart at 1930 returning to Laxey arriving 2000 on Saturday night.

Having completed the Manx Electric Railway line we take a celebratory jog around Ramsey before the last service of the night departs.
We are onboard and are underway at 2225 traversing the whole line back to the bright lights of Douglas arriving at 2340 on Saturday night.

Being youthful of foot we manage to peg it down the prom to Lord Street; where we are greeted with the mighty sight of the N1 Hullad Oie. This particular bus is infamous as the one where the MHK for Rushen and then Home Affairs Minister travelled on after the departmental Christmas party and subsequently vomited on some days after giving a speech warning of the dangers of drinking over the festive period. After similarly lubricated automotive entertainment we enter a booming metropolis at the south end of the Island. As we reach the "integrated transport interchange" consisting of a bench outside the station; a few new paving stones and a second hand bus stop sign strapped to a lamp post; none of which anyone ever wanted or asked for; we arrive at the Haven; Port Erin; at 01:07 on this Sunday morn just in time for "the fight"; to be shortly followed by the drag - racing Corsas
Note - I am allowed to be mean about Port Erin as it's my home town. Nobody else is ;)

Having been to Port Erin I agree with the comments about the transport interchange, but luckily there is a hotel over the road - I have stayed there, so we check in for a few hours and return to the bus stop in time to catch the Bus Vannin service 12 departing at 0705 and alight at the Airport where we arrive at 0733 on Sunday morning.

Having had an enjoyable weekend on the island, we decide to travel onwards to other parts of the world. However, it appears that Sunday is a very quiet day on the island, and there is only one flight during the three hour period. That flight is Flybe 603, departing at 1010 and depositing us back on the English mainland (Liverpool Speke, to be exact) at 1055 on Sunday morning.

We want to get back to International Travel; Liverpool John Lennon Airport (to use the modern name) serves an array of foreign destinations.

After having lunch at the airport, we board EasyJet U27283 departing at 13:20 and fly over to Geneva Airport, arriving at 16:10 local time on Sunday afternoon. We're not quite Back in the USSR, but we're closer.

We then board the 17:50 InterRegio train, operated by SBB CFF FFS, to Brig where it arrives there at 19:32, on a Sunday evening.

We now travel with a long distance train on its final leg. This is ICE 373 which left Berlin Hbf exactly ten hours ago. That was 1126 when we were not long arrived in Liverpool!
We have both come many many miles to join together here and at 2126 we are off and we take our leave of this train at Interlaken West at 2151 on Sunday night.

We are well placed to explore the Bernese Oberland and perhaps climb the Jungfraujoch to visit the highest station in Europe, but first we need to get to Interlaken Ost, the main interchange station in Interlaken. We achieve this by walking outside the station and take the 95742 bus departing at 2235 and alight at Interlaken Ost Bahnhof where we arrive at 2240 on Sunday evening.

Our mountain trek begins...

There are still buses running at this hour even on a Sunday.

At 2304 we get Berner Oberland Bahnen number 199 run seemingly on behalf of SBB, and alight in Lauterbrunnen at 2323 on Sunday night.

Google Maps says journeys end is on Bahnofpl.

There's a 2330 service from Lauterbrunnen to Wengen which probably connects with the bus (We are in Switzerland after all!)but as there is an hourly service through the night, we will have a last drink and catch the 0040 R303 Wengeralpbahn service to Wengen where we arrive at 0054 on Monday morning.

This appears to as far as we can go. We thus amble to the nearest chalet and after a excellent nights sleep, thanks to fine Swiss hospitality, we head back to the railway station.

We board the 0724 SBB's Wengernalpbahn R337 one step further to a high point for us in our travels. We arrive in Kleine Scheidegg at 0750 on Monday morning.

Let's go up to the highest station in Europe (and it's underground!) as we take the 08:00 R537 to Jungfraujoch, operated by Jungfraubahn. We arrive there at 08:35 on a Monday morning.

Let's complete the lines operated by Wengernalpbahn (WAB) and travel to Grindelwald.

This we can do on the 1003 departure aboard WAB R440 which arrives in Grindelwald at 1042 on Monday morning.

We don't hang around in Grindelwald for long so we head back on the 10:47 R451 to Kleine Scheidegg, operated by Wengernalpbahn, where it arrives there by 11:20 on Monday morning. (Hint: finish the Wengernalp railway!)
