Interesting...
1 Clifton Down 1 Miles
2 Redland 1.6 Miles
3 Montpelier 1.7 Miles
4 Clifton Down 2 Miles
5 Filton Abbey Wood 2 Miles
6 Stapleton Road 2.3 Miles
7 Seamills 2.3 Miles
8 Sea Mills 2.4 Miles
9 Lawrence Hill 2.8 Miles
10 Patchway 2.8 Miles

No made up stations there, but Clifton Down appears twice and Sea Mills appears twice under a different name. Both interestingly have different mileages!

Looking at my old house, Quainton Road (now a 'museum' station) appears as 0.5 miles away - most certaintly isn't - and there's also Marstongate station - one I've never heard of!

6 Ferriby 5.6 Miles
7 New Holland 5.7 Miles
8 Barrow Haven 5.8 Miles
9 Barton-on-Humber 6.4 Miles
10 Arram 7.2 Miles

This is interesting - Wilmington station closed in 1964 (There's a really interesting page on it here: http://www.disused-stations.org.uk/)! Meanwhile, Barrow Haven and New Holland are said to be closer to here than Barton, yet you have to drive through Barton to get to them

Are the distances actually by road or are they as the crow flies?

Hellfire! Ched-Aylesbury branch!

Obviously it still thinks its 1950 or something with all these long-closed shacks appearing
Stanbridgeford also appears, dreadful!

Ah, the reason I never realised what it was, the station was actually 'Marston Gate!'

Scunthorpe and Frodingham station does not exist (and has never done so), as it is in the middle of a housing estate away from the railway line.

Medge Hall is just a signal box....

Although that map location is definately wrong, maybe its thinking of the small holt for the Steelworks tours?!

What I don't understand is how they find stations for their database. Surely it's not easy to get information on a station that closed 50 years ago, or one that apparently barely exists (the steelworks tour one!).

It seems the best way for a station to get on this list is if it's closed ;)

I typed in a postcode in Burnham-On-Sea (Somerset), and came up with:

Ref: Location: Distance:
1 Highbridge & Burnham 2.2 Miles
2 Bason Bridge 3.3 Miles
3 Weston-super-Mare 6.7 Miles
4 Weston Milton 7.3 Miles
5 Bridgwater 7.7 Miles
6 Worle 8.5 Miles
7 Shapwick 8.9 Miles
8 Lodge Hill 11.2 Miles

9 Yatton 12.2 Miles
10 Penarth 15.1 Miles It might exist, but i don't fancy swimming across the sea at Burnham with my suitcase, just to get on a train!

Hail All! <D
Seems that it can sometimes be right - Almost!... :toothy10:
Code:
1 Farnborough (Main) 1.7 Miles

9 Aldershot 4.5 Miles
[b]10	London Necropolis	45.5 Miles[/b]
([i]This was bombed flat by the Germans in WWII, and never rebuilt.[/i])
O.K, that last one is blatantly me just having a joke, but I wonder if the Necropolis station exists on that station finder?... :D

Hmmm...I'll have to have a hunt, methinks! <D
>> Death <<

Addendum: Nope...Necropolis isn't listed in there under LO* or NE*!
Given the number of other closed/non-existant stations listed there though, I'm highly surprised that this is the case!

The Necropolis station wouldn't be 45 miles from us, Death. Waterloo is only 33 :p You'd have been more believeable if you put Brookwood Necropolis in there

Hmmm...Come to think of it, I do seem to recall the MP between Farnborough Main and the bridge over the A331 reading 33 3/4 or something like that!:lol:
That'll teach me to make a post like that after being up all night clubbing...Or at least I'll (Hopefully) think to check my road atlas first in future! :D:p

Talking of the Necropolis station though: I arrived at Waterloo about half an hour before my train was due to depart this morning, and decided to kill time (No pun intended! :)) looking for it. Although the actual building itself was lost in the last War, the arch at the front still survives to this day at 121 Westminster Bridge Rd, and looks like this. I have a feeling that the building above the arch may be a reconstruction of any original one, but don't take my word for it; It's a guess. :)

And on the subject of "our" end of the Necropolis Network at Brookwood, I've noticed a very short (About 2m long) section of track with wooden sleepers right behind the plat. 2 building, surrounded by a fence. Is this going to form a heritage thingymabob for the original Necropolis siding, or is it just a random artifact that Southern Region left lying about? :p

Not sure about that bit of track, but our school (Cove, sure you know it ;)) went down to Brookwood cemetery once and were given a couple of hours to look around in groups. Me and my mates went wondering about the place and ended up in the Asian(?) section of the cemetary which is right next to the railway. After trying to find our way back to where we started (took ages) we came across a bit of a clearing (no rails/sleepers left) which I'm guessing may have been part of the branch. The cemetary is quite big (about 500 acres of 2000 is used I think) and isn't half eerie when you don't know where you are in the rain! There is certainly 235,000 to 240,000 graves on the site.

This is the South station, which was one of a few on the "death branch".

That's hilarious.

1 Barnwell
2 Quy
3 Cambridge
4 Waterbeach
5 Shelford
6 Lords Bridge
7 Whittlesford
8 Foxton
9 Dullingham
10 Shepreth

On a serious note, there is something behind this somewhere that, presented the right way, would be a really useful resource for people interested in railway history.

Edit...

1 Wemyss Bay
2 Largs
3 Millport
4 Fairlie
5 Hunterston
6 Inverkip
7 West Kilbride
8 Glengarnock
9 Dalry
10 Rothesay

Most of those are real stations (Hunterston is a coal terminal - I don't think it's ever had a station).

But Millport and Rothesay??? They are islands. They never had trains in their lives!

Hmmm...I've noticed a clear "plateau" that runs parallel to the down local from Brookwood plat. 2 building towards Woking...Could this have been the decent from the main line to the cemetary branch? 8-)

I'll try and wander down there with a camera at some point, but as my "camera" is actually a camera phone, it'll be photos from outside the cemetary only. I always turn my phone off before entering such peaceful places ye see... :)

The cemetary is quite big (about 500 acres of 2000 is used I think) and isn't half eerie when you don't know where you are in the rain! There is certainly 235,000 to 240,000 graves on the site.
That's very good going when ye consider that most who died in the Great Plagues and Fires of London are buried there...Either they've been double/triple/quad-layering memorials all over the place, or they're only keeping peoples places of rest sacred for the 100 years post mortem and removing them after.

If there's 1,500 acres of spare space going though, it could be a very good idea to re-lay the Brookwood Cemetary branch and reopen London Necopolis station! :)

I have to add that I've been there at night before now, and I've found it neither eerie, frightening or even uncomfortable...It has to be said that - Day or night - I always feel safe and at peace in that beautiful place... 8)

This [Image] is the South station, which was one of a few on the "death branch".
Awww...They named the branch after me? :lol:8)
I'm truly honoured...Especially given that it was the Necropolis branch after all, and thus very appropriate given my username! <D:)

Farewell... <D

Mine provided only the two closed railway stations, Chiltern Green and Standbridgeford. Really surprised it didn't give me Luton Bute Street, Dunstable Town and Dunstable North, considering they were on the same railway line as Standbridgeford and closed at the same time! No logic at all to this thing!

I then entered my uni postcode hoping the old Waterloo Necropolis would come up (considering its literally just around the corner) but no luck!

Away from all thing trains - I always thought the dead from the plague were buried at Blackheath, hence the name from the 'black death?'
