Theoretical Fare Question

Someone has an over 60 London pass
This is not valid before 09.00
If said person touched in at Eastcote at 08.45 with an oyster and then touched out 3 minutes later and then travelled anyway into Zone 1 but stayed in Zone 5 ( HOTH) until after 09.00 and exited with the over 60 in Zone 1
( For those who dont know the oyster will be charged the a minimum zone 5 to zone 5 fare after 30 minutes if the user does nothing else with the oyster)
Are they committing an offence ?
Would a TFL RPI care?
Does this change with contactless?
I note that the system will attempt to automatically refund if you have not done this within 7 days
Does this change anything?
Any suggestion of doughnutting is irrelevant as the user could touch in at Eastcote touch out at HOTH and carry on their journey

The strange behaviour of exiting the barrier at Eastcote will already catch the attention of the barrier staff.
And definitely, the person is committing an offence of not having a valid ticket to be in the TfL paid area from 08:48 to 09:00.
The best way is, just delay the travel to 09:00 would be fine.

The single zone fare will be charged at the time of touch out. It doesn't wait 30 minutes.

I don't believe so.

Agreed. If starting before 0900 is necessary then get off at the station where you will start using the 60+ and touch out on the ordinary Oyster.

Just to be pedantic the barriers will let actually you through on an over 60 at 0858.
You are as ever correct about the minimum charge being applied immediately
I am mistaken

It’s 09:30 at ECR, the crowd rushes through at 09:28
