Shopping, eating or walking around aimlessly lol.

There is a cinema in Leisure World on West Quay Road, opposite Ikea but it is quite a walk. There are numerous pubs and restaurants in Above Bar and London Road.

There really isn't a lot of leisure facilities in town (they are coming soon with Watermark West Quay due to open next year I believe). What sort of things are you interested in? You can go down to Mayflower Park (West Quay Road again) to watch the ships or get on a Red Funnel ferry over to Isle of Wight, or a Hythe ferry over to Hythe.

If you want railway stuff, then you can walk (or bus/train) to Millbrook station and see fast trains pass by, with the freight trains loading up alongside the station.

Let me know if I can help with anything else.

The centre of Southampton is abysmal. What was started by Goering in 1940 was finished by the town "planners" in the 50s and 60s. There are some fun restaurants in the centre; Tripadvisor will guide you. If trains are your thing, then Millbrook is the place. However the weather forecast is dire and the platforms are bleak.

If you like wildlife, then Shirley High St is for you!!

Either an hour walk through town (via The Avenue, London Road, Above Bar) or direct bus Unilink U1C and walk 2 mins around the corner and down the pier.

Haha, there's certainly some sights to see in Shirley!

(168lover Don't waste your time going to Shirley, it's just charity shops and Eastern European supermarkets)

In terms of culture and entertainment, Southampton must be one of the worst towns of its size in Europe.

Apart from seeing the trains and regular intermodals, there is quite a few shops. As far as I remember there is a free bus service from the station. When you come out you turn left and walk up the hill and I believe the shops are to the right. There is a mall and its quite urban. There is a short walk to the docks or whatever they are called ;)

I did the hythe ferry and pier train. Got to Hythe and had the classic cod and chips, went back to Southampton. Wandered round west quays for a bit and then met up with my dad and sister and went home

Free city bus is no more, only free for ferry passengers.

Portsmouth?! The only good thing about Portsmouth is Gunwharf Quays and the motorway out!!

Historic dockyard, two cathedrals, Spinnaker Tower (on a clear day), Old Portsmouth, Victorian Southsea, fine restaurants and pubs, etc etc. Much more on offer in Pompey than in Southampton ;)
