An amusing story I heard on the radio today, regarding a car which had been modified to masquerade as 'Thomas the Tank Engine' being stopped by Police in Wetherby.

Pic on website with story at https://www.strayfm.com/news/local-news/2286360/no-tank-you-police-stop-thomas-the-car/

No tank you! Police stop Thomas the Car
Police have made an unusual stop in Wetherby today.
Roads policing officers from West Yorkshire Police took to twitter to share the incident this afternoon, in which they stopped a car which had been made to look like Thomas the Tank Engine.
The driver was reported for construction and use offences.

probably considered unsafe for pedestrians in case of accident, could also be driver visibility issues.

Yes I can see that there may be a slight visibility issue and I imagine that the insurance company may not have been fully informed of the modifications ("I'm sorry, but did you just say that you've converted your BMW into a fictional locomotive?"). :).
Quite a good effort though. Is that a 45 gallon drum being used as the boiler?

That's one of the daftest cars I've ever seen. Looks like an oil drum was used for Thomas' face.

It would however make a really nasty mess of any pedestrian who got in its way so I'm glad it was pulled over. Eek.

I imagine the driver will also be getting a sizable bill from whoever it is who currently holds the rights to Thomas?

Unfortunately, he wasn't the first to the punch:

Bet it wasn't (legally) insured if they reckon there's a construction and use offence- any modifications (even simply repainting) need to be recorded and declared to VOSA and insurance company

It would have been even more funny if the vehicle had been pulled over by a police officer who had the striking resemblance of the Fat Controller!

Only if he was using it for some commercial purpose, I presume. As opposed to just having appalling taste in modified cars! He was on the motorway too, hope his welding was up to scratch! Waste of a lovely old Beemer, shame :(

The car(s) referred in the post should not be driven onto public roads for sure, but I genuine think they look cool and stylish!

All traffic coppers are aware of the regulations, however it should be possible to modify cars to meet these requirements as IIRC in the late 90's there were some road legal beds driving around. (Yes, beds, my auto correct didn't change it)

The 'Cozy Coupe' (adult sized version of a kids' ride-on car!) is a good one, too!
