Due to some works on the North TPE route the Manchester Airport (MIA)-Newcastle (NCL) services are running via Doncaster (DON) in the path of the Manchester-Cleethorpes (CLE) with a separate Doncaster-Cleethorpes service running instead. Thoughout the day there is a 4 minute connection eastbound between them. The minimum connection time at Doncaster is 7 minutes - why on earth haven't they just scheduled the DON-CLE services to depart 7 minutes after the MIA-NCL services arrive!? Seems a stupid decision.

It would seem they have kept them in the same paths that they would have previously had - but that this means as there is now a change neccesary, the "through" journey is no longer possible.

It's therefore quicker to catch the EMT from Manchester Piccadilly, change at Sheffield for the Newcastle XC service and arrive at Doncaster at xx17 for the xx39 service to Cleethorpes.

It's booked as a platform 8 to 0 interchange too so you'd be pushed to make it anyway regardless of validity.

Also depending on the time of day it's not much longer to go via Worksop and Brigg (Saturday only)

Its actually Sunday 6 August according to Real Time Trains. Saturday doesn't appear to be affected.

Will the Manchester to Newcastle via Doncaster services this weekend be running as 3 or 6 car formations? (Hopefully the latter!)

0753 MIA-NCL is 6 car, as is the 1206 NCL-MIA. Presumably these will not be the only ones.

I am heading to Doncaster today from MAN and it's giving me the option of boarding a Newcastle service instead of the Cleethorpes service.

Isn't that because, apart from an odd later departure, there are no Manchester to Cleethorpes trains (& return). TPEx timetable recommends Manchester to Cleethorpes passengers to travel EMT (Liverpool/Norwich) to Sheffield then connect into xx.47 XC (Reading etc) Newcastle departure and change again at Doncaster for Cleethorpes. Result is a journey about 40 minutes longer than normal!

At least one service today was short formed - 10.10 Newcastle to Manchester was 3 car instead of 6! Given that the following 11.xx from Newcastle was reported full and standing from Durham (first stop), and a northbound service similarly f & s from Sheffield. Best to stay at home this weekend, methinks
