Apologies if I’ve missed this but does anyone know the date the new TOC will be informed they have the franchise?
You'll still have to do a couple of years at Derby or Notts I would imagine.
ThankyouLooks like it’s Stagecoach until August, option to extend a further 6 months. https://www.gov.uk/government/speeches/east-midlands-rail-franchise-update
Ok that’s interesting ThankyouWe should find out very soon who the new franchise holder is, and it should commence in August 2019. The franchise will either remain with Stagecoach, or be awarded to Arriva or Abellio.
No matter who wins it, the name of the next franchise is ‘East Midlands Railway’.
Should be no effect, I haven't heard of any plans to ditch the shed links, and Abellio and Arriva both have depot drivers in other areas of the country so are not anti-shed links per se. Stagecoach will probably keep it anyway me thinks.
Hi Gabe, I'm not the best placed person to respond as I'm awaiting my stage 1 results but this thread includes all of the details the various stages of the recruitment so worth a read through, i thought stage 2 was a team exercise and then a speed interview bit like speed dating but interview style. I've never heard of the video interview so maybe some of the stages have changed and a video interview sounds interesting!
Hi Gabe, I received an e mail on Monday regarding my passing stage 1 assessment that i took on the 29th March in Derby. The e mail stated that they would be in touch shortly, but no mention of any video interview or what was required re. next stage.I’ve actually recieved a second email regarding a video interview. I wasn’t expecting this and I’m really not sure what to make if it, has anyone had experience with it?
Thanks![]()
I wonder what happens now. The information is interesting regarding pensions. There is clearly much more to that. Thankyou for sharing.Abellio awarded East Midlands rail franchise after Stagecoach disqualified

Has anyone who did the assessment day on 18th March had a date for their DMI? Will the change of franchise affect the current recruitment campaign?
I was on that day and I've not heard anything either.
I know others (far more clued-up in how TOCs work than I) have said it shouldn't make a difference, but I can't see why a company would continue with the time, effort and cost of recruiting for staff to go on courses starting in 8 or 9 months, when it won't be in charge of the business in 4 months! Unless there's some form of contractual obligation?
Yeah, as Spankthemonkey said, it’ll certainly be business as normal until Abellio start in August, and even then, nothing will probably change immediately. Don’t panic! I’m sure you’ll be fine.![]()
Hi all,
The video interview isn’t too bad, I wouldn’t particularly worry about it. Just prepare as you would for stage two and you’ll have it covered.
So I’m through to the next stage. A morning of group sessions then interviews should I be lucky enough to get through.
Any advice?
Gl all!
I was at the stage one testing on the 27th for Leeds and have done the video interview and been invited to stage two since then, might be an obvious one but have you checked your junk/spam emails?Hi all, is anyone else waiting for stage 1 results from the testing at the end of March? I was there on Friday 29th and have not heard anything. I emailed last week to ask if my results were available (as it's clear to me from this post and the other regarding the leed depot that people tested at the same time have been informed.)
Just wondering if there are others still wating really and I know there is nothing I can really do bit try and not check my emails every 5 mins!
