Just going through Slough Station and it got me thinking, why are is there only 1 gwr non stop service from Slough to Paddington in the morning peak and none in the evening peak.

Off peak there is a non stop GWR train that takes 16 minutes every 30 minutes whereas peak the only option is the stopping EL services which takes well over 30 minutes.

Maidenhead 2 stops up the line has numerous fast non stop peak services to Paddington. Some departing 5 minutes apart.

Slough is a large town (160k) and connection to branch line to Windsor

It’s a change resulting from the full Crossrail timetable. More Crossrail services from Reading in the peaks resulted in the two GWR services per hour in the peaks being moved over to the main lines after Maidenhead. So they no longer call at Slough.

Trains have not called at Slough in the peak for over 20 years. Its to free up capacity for non stop services.
