Hi everyone

Just joined and hoping to receive some advice about overtime for Tram Drivers. I'm applying for a Driving job and am looking to find from any Metrolink drivers whether there's much opportunity for overtime?

Plenty of overtime at the moment due to new lines opening and training and commissioning drivers being involved in these so they are not able to fill any regular driving duties at the moment. Once the drivers have been signed off on the new lines and the most recent intake of trainees pass out and their minders go back to filling duties then overtime may dry up in comparison but the opportunity will always be there with the need to fill other drivers annual leave. Also when the next line opens the overtime will reappear.

The pay is time and half with an average duty being around 7.5 hours. You can only work a maximum of 12 consecutive days then it must be followed by 24 hours rest. A regular duty must be followed by 12 hours rest. We get 2 or 3 rest days a week so there is plenty of opportunity to boost the wage.

There is also shift enhancement at £1 an hour for time booked on before 6am and after 10pm.

Cheers mate. Do you reckon hitting £28k is achievable as that's what I really need to cover my basics like mortgage, car etc.

Cheers. How's OSP, Pensions, Holidays etc? My buddy has been offered a job with the company and I'm trying to suss out what's on offer so I can see whether it is worth continuing with my application of not. I am going to get a look at a mate of a mate's Metrolink contract in a couple of weeks, but any advance info puts me in a better position for deciding.

SSP is paid as follows.

Length of Service Number of weeks
<1...................................4
1-2..................................8
2-5.................................16
>5..................................26

There are different pension plans IIRC the company will match any contribution by the employee between 3 & 5%. I think these are only after 12 months service though.
