Notes:
*1: Service very busy to Wolverhampton and Telford, revenue protection out in force. This appears to normally be a 4 coach service as far as Shrewsbury but it and a number of other services on this line were short formed today. Noticed there were no Welsh announcements, not sure if this is normal for the 158 services?
Wrexham General is an attractive station with an interesting canopy and footbridge towers, but first impressions of Wrexham were not good, walked down from Wrexham General to Wrexham Central via Watery Road, viewing the sad sight that is Central station from the bridge, and came to a bleak open air shopping centre with no facilities evident and a number of closed units including a large empty Wilko. However, after walking a couple of minutes further things improved considerably, the shopping area seemed quite lively with many independent shops, interesting alleyways and arcades, plus the near cathedral sized St. Giles’ church with its magnificent stained glass.
*2: Waiting at Shrewsbury, 1I20 is normally 2+2 coaches formed of portions from Aberystwyth and Pwllheli, but instead a 2 coach ECS unit arrived first, and then was joined by the 2 coaches from Aberystwyth, with the Pwllheli portion (2I20) having terminated at Machynlleth (where the portions normally join).
*3: Connection to Newcastle service was possible due to it being delayed by a freight service in the Small Heath area.

Having had the pleasure of spending more than half an hour at Shrewsbury a few months ago admiring the (largely) semaphore signalled station with complex junctions, your photos enabled me to relive that.

I have been through or to all locations mentioned except Birmingham International so thank you for reminding me it's a coverage gap.

Good photo of Bank Street, Wrexham.
