After finding out a month ago about the changes at Langwathby station changing the parking from free to £12 per day and someone getting a £60 (reduced from £100? for paying within 14 days) fine for staying 12 minutes (with only a 10 minute free period) dropping someone off, I've just been talking to someone else where the exact same thing has happened and in future they won't use that station and will go to Lazonby instead. For those prepared to pay that is even questionable as the only way to pay is by mobile phone app, and the mobile signal there isn't reliable so even they could be put off using it [myself if I go on that line in the near future I'll probably start at Appleby instead]. As more people get walloped with a parking charge presumably they will do the same so some station usage will transfer to the 2 adjacent stations on the line. Doesn't help that they appear not to have notified anyone that runs the railway since all the information pages for the station still state the parking is free.

I was wondering how often something similar has happened at other small stations that are suddenly harder to use - either inflated car park charges as in this case, a car park closing, or a bus route stopping or made much more infrequent. Not counting temporary changes like a road closed for a month, but permanent changes NOT made by the railway.

Teesside Airport might count (not that it ever had many passengers anyway). Wasn't the entrance to the airport originally much closer to the station, which was rendered virtually useless when it was moved?

IBM... found itself going from a station serving a manufacturing plant employing thousands, to a station situated in a huge derelict brownfield site (affected by anti-social behaviour reportedly) awaiting redevelopment.

Bicester Town: Now used much more after the opening of the shopping outlet and being re-named to Bicester Village to match it.

Kidsgrove was always good for slows to Manchester and parking on streets nearby compared to Stoke and the charges there.
