Some interesting news - the VoR is to acquire the Brecon Mountain Railway.

Aberystwyth, 26th October 2023

The Vale of Rheidol Railway (VoR) is pleased to announce it is in negotiation for the acquisition of the Brecon Mountain Railway (BMR). This merger represents an historic milestone for both railways and safeguards the future of the BMR for future generations to enjoy.

The Vale of Rheidol Railway, has a rich history dating back to 1902. Known for its breath-taking journeys from the coast at Aberystwyth to Devil’s Bridge in the Cambrian Mountains it has been continuously operating as a tourist railway for 120 years carrying visitors from across the globe. It has a unique history as the last steam railway to be operated by British Rail.

Of course it was the Brecon Mountain Railway which bought the VoR from British Railways - though eventually the partners Peter Rampton and Tony Hills went their separate ways and the VoR became a separate entity.

I was under the impression that there was a connection between the two railways after preservation already. It's good that the two railways are splicing the knot officially; you never know we may see a Baldwin take a trip to Devils Bridge.

There was Brecon bought VoR from British Railways. However, they became separate companies when the partnership between Peter Rampton and Tony Hill split. If I recall correctly one operation Brecon was purely commercial and VoR wanted to become a charity.
