I recently booked a Virgin Trains first class ticket, first time I've booked a first class ticket with them. I paid £5.60 more than the standard class fare. What I was wondering is, do people on here think that £5.60 for the upgrade to first class is worth it?

The service I'm book on is the 1930 BHM-EUS.

What do you get extra as part of the 1st class fare? I've been on this service before and normally it's 1 person to every 2 seats or so in standard class, so getting a seat has never been a problem. I've been on london midland first class before and I wouldn't pay extra for it, didn't seem to get anything on top of standard class (luckily I didn't pay extra because the 1st class fare was cheaper than the standard class fare).

I would recommend weekday virgin first class, not only do u get the wider and more comfy seat u also get free wifi, an at seat meal service (time dependant) and unlimited free booze!! U will also get a newspaper. So well worth the upgrade.

Can not fault it! Currently in Glasgow having come by VT First Class on Friday morning, and will return to Euston VT First Class on Monday morning. Great service, very comfortable and good value.

In that case your in for a treat :) enjoy.
You say that the at seat meal service is time dependant, is it available on the 1930 BHM - EUS (Fri)? Can you still get food even if its not at seat?

Sounds a lot better than london midland!

Think you will get a sandwich etc, snacks, but too late for evening meal, that why price might be cheap, still good amount of food and drinks, first class is good, done lots of times, mainly Virgin Pendolino, wouldn't do full fare though.

VT Timetable shows last meal service from West Mids is the train before- the 1845 ex Wolverhampton so probably no main meals on 1930 onwards

I've got a feeling but I may be wrong that the 1930 BHM to EUS is an evening supper train as the West Midlands pendos don't have the evening meal.

The sandwich and snacks are fine. 1E05 mentioned unlimited free booze! Do they come round to your seat multiple times?

Free wifi will be useful :) Sorry for all the questions!

I knew there had to be a reason why this was the first service with the cheaper (advance) fares!

I have been on the 1930 service. It is the "All Day" menu - e.g. cold sandwiches/wraps/salads and cake/chocolate.

I wouldn't expect more than two passes of the cold drinks trolley in the relatively short journey but it is common to be granted a request for additional drinks.

In my experience in travelling on the West Midlands services mid to late evening, some crews come through with the drinks trolley out and back as they do during the day whereas others come and take your order and then bring it out on a tray. If the latter, I've always found no problem in ordering drinks x2. If using the trolley, it's usually one drink on the outward run and another on the way back. Sometimes it's possible to ask for another drink if a crew member passes by.

Does Virgin Trains publish an evening meal rotation list similar to the one on East Coast Trains? If so a link would be appreciated.

Friend travelled recently and said both the meat choice and vegetarian alternative were spicy food. Unfortunately I cannot eat anything even slightly spicy. I will be booking an evening meal service for 25 September shortly, but don't want to pay £30 extra for first class if there's nothing on the hot menu I can eat.

Yesterday on Virgin the 1st Class offerings were
Tandoori Chicken with Naan bread balls
Vegetarian Curry with basmati Rice
Salmon Sandwiches
Egg Mayo Sandwiches

Followed by Cheese, Fruit & Chocolate - along with drinks etc.

This was the same offering as when I last used about 4 weeks ago

You will also get access to the first class lounge at BHM if you're in good time. I've not been since New St was redesigned but if you're ever too early and want some quiet it may be worth it

Yes that's exactly what my friend was offered and could not eat and I don't want to be in the same position.

I do feel that for both dishes to be Indian cuisine is a bit unreasonable.
