I'm after a flexible ticket (going out Saturday 5 April, coming back Sunday 6 April) cheaper than the 'Not Via London' Off-Peak Return which is £54.30.

There are no Advances available, possibly due to the engineering works west of Southampton.

I also have a Zones 1-2 Monthly Travelcard on Oyster if this helps for 19c splits.

Thanks in advance!

And enjoy your bus ride :)
I've seen some old banger buses shuttling around Southampton with Rail Replacement on the front but then also seen some comfy looking coaches, hopefully telstarbox gets the latter.

The normal rail replacement plan is that long distance passengers are transferred to/from coaches at Parkway, even when Southampton Central remains open to trains from the east, because the coaches can get straight onto the motorway from there towards Bournemouth. Parkway's car park has much more space than Central in any case, and of course both sides at Central have all their local bus traffic already.

So the outcome of all that is that you'll often see 'buses' in Southampton, dealing with local rail replacement, while all the better quality coaches run to and from Parkway, avoiding Central completely...

And it's pretty much straight onto the M27 from Parkway, then it's dual carriageways the rest of the way.

The time difference for a straight Parkway to Bournemouth Station by the bus can't be that much different to the train?

About 5-10 minutes, most of that timetabled padding. The slows are actually quicker - quite noticeable on a Sunday as usually the slow from London is not worth bothering with.
