It shouldn't take 5 years. It should probably be something around 2 years to make the buses, and they will probably order them in 2 batches. They aren't ordering 5 car trains.
It depends on the manufacturer but I doubt it would take 2 years

According to bustimes, 663 is currently (7/9/24 @ 18:59) on the Indigo. Is this is a tracking error?
it's on there again at the moment. Just seen it.

edit and now Skylink MMC 120 too, according to bustimes it's 208 with 120's ticket machine

But the local services will all be electric buses, by 2030, hopefully much earlier.
I’m not sure the arrival of electric buses in possibly 5 years is a good enough reason to be cancelling services on a daily basis now. Given the demands of Skylink Kinch simply does not have enough vehicles to operate the current timetables whenever uni is in session so they need extra resource within a few weeks not a few years.

They will be saying next that Solo SR 502 broke down in Nottingham at 15.31 (Nottingham to Loughborough service) next . At least they found another bus from somewhere.

If some were headed to Kinch it’d make sense to keep the Mango MMCs to cover other Kinch routes given the current fleet is proven to be inadequate to keep services operating for most of the year.
It'll be alright until the Versas start breaking down again!

Something going on in Derby marketplace this morning

View attachment 164925

Something to do with the latest legislation seemingly
A report into the future of bus travel which could help local councils transform their bus networks to deliver better value for money and more reliable services, for passengers has been launched in Derby. Simon Lightwood, under-secretary for local transport, attended the event at Quad before visiting the Trentbarton bus depot in Meadow Road.

Wonder what will happen with time to Derby's depot. Apparently Volvos 714-7 have all been transferred to Kinchbus to replace Citaros 903-906, with 822 primarily being used on the 2, hence not replacing 901 directly.

822 was transferred some time ago. Citaro 904 is off with no MOT, leaving just 906 in service. I thought 715 and 716 transferred to cover the Citaros...

The situation with the X38 is insane & not sustainable long term, that was a joint service, but now has 2 companies operating competing services, the Arriva X38 serves Derby bus station but TB doesn't, wouldn't be surprised by Christmas or early next year if sanity prevails & the route goes back to joint operation with both companies serving Derby bus station.

Don't forget that Citaros 901, 903 and 905 also existed... As I said, 4 Volvos to cover those (903 & 905) and 904 & 906, with 901 being replaced by 822.

It will all come down to where people want to catch the X38. Given a choice, I would not catch it from Corporation Street or Victoria Street. Certainly not in bad weather.

That's the idea of a bus war. There will be one winner (unless the Traffic Commissioner gets involved)
Post Covid, and indeed other economic shocks we see more of it. I would think few businesses are in the financial position that they were in 2019. Some will have high costs, some low profits. But many big companies will have revenue circa 80% of pre COVID and 115% of the costs. I seriously doubt funding that gap is sustainable. So, what do you do? Well after becoming lean by taking out unnecessary costs, and maximising your revenue you may have to go for growth, hence competition here (and I see it happening elsewhere in the country and in other businesses). Bus companies are restricted by ENCTS, even the £2 fund remuneration (the latter had a bigger effect on Trentbarton than Arriva, for example). Putting fares up could make things worse, but you can guarantee many costs will rise. I guess you have to spread those costs out over a larger base, which means taking on competitors. The weakest don't survive. (Classic example was Wilko)..

Which still puts them a vehicle down due to the withdrawal of 7 even if 715 actually makes it out of the depot which it hasn’t managed in months.

On this site mine also shows 2, which is probably the same for a lot of people (Birmingham and Bristol). But it doesn't show London!
Strange thing. I would have thought the criteria would have been the same for all places.

810 is also at TM.

I believe service vehicles are exempt from the charges, I’ve also heard that the loaned ADLs have now been purchased.
If service vehicles were exempt, Notts and Derby would not be picking up fines for buses loaned to TM Travel. Maybe Trentbarton will too, now. Someone told me, that at the time the ULEZ charge came in, bus operators gave details of their current fleet....and those were exempt. Hence why TM leased the Enviro 200MMCs. But any incoming bus not compliant would not be exempt. Daft as it sounds, you could end up paying more in fines, that you take in fares on some routes.

Got a trent X38 this afternoon and it was driven by a Kinchbus driver. Arriva seemed to be quite lightly loaded most of the time whilst the trent vehicles looked better when I have seen them this week.

Yes several drivers are on loan temporarily for the enhanced service.

Yeah I have been seeing similar more recently too. And to anyone that may say 'the trentbarton drivers leave to specifically get to their next stop before arriva do' isn't exactly true as arriva tend to do this first, especially at Burton, where they purposely pull out in front of the trentbarton ones so they can't be overtaken!
