What is this Sundries coupon?

I have a few of them in my collection, mainly from somebody who (stupidly) uses the trainline a lot. I think it could be the booking fee or missed train insurance or something but I'm not really sure.

Sundries are typically for accounting purposes.
To give you an example, when issuing one of the TfGM Wayfarer scratchcards, Northern Rail offices have to put the ticket through the FasTis machine. As the scratchcard is the ticket, FasTis issues a 'sundries' coupon to account for the money taken.
I am, however, not sure what 'sundry' would be valued at 75p.

Here is a list of all the sundry account codes (from the NFM16 CD). I guess DR means something like "debit record". 91311 seems to be "CLERICAL SERVICES". Not sure if this really enlightens things at all!

Once booking a cycle res at Chester, it showed up as £0.05 then 'paid cash' then got the res issued (free of charge obviously). I noticed something come out of the printer after my tickets and the clerk put it in the till. Would that have been a sundries coupon? Also noted this when booking reservations only at ticket offices, a receipt or ticket gets printed out which the clerk keeps.
On the Merseyrail network when issuing reservations, I sometimes get told they have to 'put it through Fastis'. Do they have to issue a sundry if a seat res only is made? Finally, once getting a ticket from a guard on a train, a ticket printed out first but it appeared to be covered in letters/numbers, like it was just all black, anyone know what that would have been?

Difficult to say without knowing what the clerk was doing.
Again, difficult to know from that description, but it is possible it is a receipt for a 'zero fare' register.

That was probably a test ticket. I have one somewhere that I found inbetween the seats of a Tube train but have never seen one myself that I have been issued with so no idea how it is issued!
No, It's "Clerical Services" - double 1, not double 3.
One place you won't see these is London Midland booking offices. As even though there is no explicit prohibition in writing, we're effectively banned from using them. Want to pay your £10 fee by card? Then we have to dig out the old manual voucher. :roll:

If I remember "Test Tickets" could be issued in a LUL Booking Office from either pink roll stock or from card stock. Thses were usually for making sure that the ticket printer was working properly etc.
The above applies to LUL ticketing back in the late 80's
That'll teach me to look twice. Still, Driving Lessons sounds quite good.
That seems both perverse, given Tribute is replete with pretty much every Sundry possible, and dangerous, given it puts all of the risk for the card transaction onto LM as you won't be using Chip and PIN.

I've met the term in accounting. It normally means a random figure added to the debits in order to makes the books balance. (The equivalent on the credit side of the ledger being Subscriptions).

Back in APTIS days there was dedicated ticket stock for "Sundries Dr." and "Sundries Cr." BR 4599/11 and BR 4599/12 IIRC.
Yes and yes, in that order. But if anyone dares to use a sundry, Accounts come down on them like a ton of bricks. All our accountancy is manual and on paper. We also still don't have the barcode scanners and auto-warrant system, even though the hardware has been sitting in storage for two years. And rather than hook us up to Tribute's in-built season ticket database, we have to have a separate manual entry one.
Leads me to the belief that there are certain people in Accounts who can only justify their position by keeping us booking office staff in the technological Dark Ages.

I noticed today when collecting some pre-paid tickets over the counter at Chester earlier today, that a sundry coupon was printed out after my tickets. The clerk put them in a bundle of others and put an elastic band round them.

They print out with certain transactions, such as refunds or any where zero value coupons are issued. Reservations and ToD slips spring to mind. I have to sign and retain them before posting them off to the accountants.

When the coupon initially came out I thought it was the collection receipt and was going to ask for it 
But I glanced at it more closely and it had sundries on it and I remembered Hairyhandedfool's post earlier on in this thread and it transpired to me that they would eventually have to be sent off to accounts. The collection receipt printed off from the paper receipt roll.
