I have a job interview as a Customer experience host on the trains and I'm just wondering what would be best to wear to the interview. I'm a guy btw

Anyone got any good advice?

A smart shirt, jacket and trousers. Possibly a tie too. Same as you would most other interviews.

Dress smart for any interview - suit if you have one or shirt and tie, trousers if you don't (although you haven't specified if you're male or female). You're dressing to impress especially if it's a customer facing role!

Thank you. I'll need to get a decent pair of smart trousers then. It's my first 'professional' job interview and I was hoping to make the best impression possible without forking out for a whole new suit.

If you aren't wearing a full whistle; when you arrive at the interview, remove your jacket and the put it on the back of your chair. The interviewer will only see shirt+tie.

Also, make sure it's ironed. Sounds simple but first impressions really matter. A crinkled shirt that looks a mess will stand out.

'Smart' is the goal. You don't need to bling or try to overly impress. Just be well presented in something 'smart'. Be confident, polite, and have an open posture. Body language can 'shout' quite loudly at times.

Shiny shoes too ;)

Agree with this. I'd definitely say jacket but don't be afraid to take it off if you're uncomfortable.
And lastly, good luck!

It says smart on the email if they do include that
But the people I know don't wear ties or own a suit so they just wore a clean plain shirt and trousers but more formal looking trousers.

I don't think too many people own a suit these days. Just look well presented preferably with a tie, ironed shirt & no jeans and that should do. Definitely don't slouch or chew gum ;) Good luck!!

I would wear a proper suit and tie to any interview, on the basis that it’s much better to be overdressed than under.

It doesn’t need to be an expensive suit, just one that fits properly.

After a few years on the railway I doubt any of mine fit any more! o_O

I've been on approximately 5 interviews in my 38 years on the railway and never wore a suit. Then again its slightly easier when you are already internal. Only suits I've ever owned have only seen limited use at the odd wedding or Grand National. Didnt enjoy wearing them and never bother now.

Perhaps a little different when you’re internal. For me it’s only been my initial interview for a trainee driver role and then moving TOCs.
