Why didn’t the British steam locos use Corliss valve gear?

My understanding is that it’s incredibly efficient and very common in stationary engines. For the record, it might’ve happened outside the UK but I kind of have to ask in one place at a time.

Can you show us any locomotive that used Corliss valve gear?
It only appears to have been used on stationary engines

reading the wiki article at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corliss_steam_engine
two immediate problem become apparent:
1) difficulty starting
2) it seems it was really only suitable for constant speed engines.

I would hazard a guess that integrating the valve gear onto multiple cylinders would be a problem
