Even if the metro had hit her, would it have like, done a lot?

That's a bit of a silly comment. Newcastle Metro trains are built to heavy rail standards, as they share the same lines as normal (heavy) rail trains- so it's quite possibly the same effect as if a 150 hit a car - a mess (for the car).
from the video, am I right in observing that on NEITHER side of the crossing is there an adjacent road leading in that direction? THis does appear to be pure, unfiltered idiocy.
at 01:04 it appears that guys shoe gets taken off. Amazingly lucky it was only his shoe...! I hope he was caught
There's a good chance as she failed to give a breath test at ve scene. Why do people think they can get away with this stuff? Obviously she won't be banged up for long because she was driving a Merc and not a Ford Escort. Just like the McCanns. Go out every night of your holiday to get pi$$ed, leave your kids in an UNLOCKED room you check on occasionally. If they weren't both Doctors, those twins would be in care now. Welcome to the classless society, just look at the MPs for proof of our class divide.lol stupid woman. How on Earth do you mistake the railway line for a road? She must have been drunk.
Alcoholic Karen Angus had downed wine and taken anti-depressants before she somehow turned on to the tracks at a Metro crossing in Fawdon, Newcastle.
I'm not even a lawyer but if I knew someone up for drink driving I'd turn their one off transgression into full blown alcoholism, it's the logical choice in our crooked society. Lawyers used to be provided to ensure a fair trial against the prosecution. Now it's to get everyone off everything possible regardless of guilt. Shockingly, guilt doesn't come in to it any longer.Quoting the BBC story, this is key:
Now, whilst I don't wish to downplay the incident, full-blown alcoholism is a mental illness. This will be why she's got a "light" sentence- it will have been assessed that sending her straight to jail would not help anyone here- I bet that part of her licence (to remain free, and not go to jail) will be to receive help to quit the drinking.
However, I reckon there's a hint of truth in what mumrar says- what money does buy you is a good lawyer, who'll negotiate that sort of settlement. Whilst they do good work, lawyers available on Legal Aid are generally not likely to be as good.
Hmmm, I don't think Tyne/Wear Metro vehicles are built to heavy rail standards. I believe by all accounts its all 1950's/60's German designed Tram stuff under a lightweight body with vintage 1500V DC power equipment. That's a bit of a silly comment.
