Wrong Direction Movements TW7

In the Driver's Rule Book I find the following a little confusing as to when possibly doing a Wrong Direction move what speed you'd be required to do over Level Crossing with wrong direction controls.

For example if doing a wrong direction move over a level crossing with X50 speed boards would 50mph be classed as a speed that you could stop in the distance you can see clear?? I think the following is a little contradictory.

In TW7 Wrong Direction Movements it states:

4.2 Level Crossing. Wrong-direction speed restriction boards (see the examples below) are positioned on the approach to level crossings that have wrong-direction controls. You must control the speed of the train to comply with the speed shown between the board and the crossing. (Speeds shown X25 & X40)

4.3 Train Speed. Except during single line working, you must always be able to stop within the distance you can see to be clear

Thank you in advance for any help & advice.

You're reading separate instructions relating to train speed.

4.3 is the general instruction to proceed at a speed you can stop in the distance you can see to be clear when moving in the wrong direction (see the list given in 1.1). This instruction doesn't relate to speed approaching a level crossing without wrong direction controls as those instructions are also given in 4.2.

As with regular speed boards, it’s a maximum. If conditions (such as the speed instructions pertaining to wrong direction moves) dictate, you’re quite within your rights to drive slower

Maximum speed for single line working in the wrong direction is 50mph, so in that situation passing over a level crossing signed as X50 at 50mph would be fine (unless instructed otherwise by the pilot).

Different rules apply during an unsignalled wrong direction movement (at caution) and under the new arrangements for a wrong-direction movement to assist a failed train (at caution but no more than 20mph) so the speed given for the crossing is irrelevant in these scenarios, and you should proceed at the appropriate speed for the scenario.

It doesn't help that the line between a wrong direction movement and single line working in the wrong direction is a little blurry in the rule book (it also doesn't help that instructions relating to use of the horn during a wrong direction movement aren't even in TW7 but are in TW1 instead).

Just in case you were unaware, the 'X40' given as an example is 40kph, not 40mph as it's white numerals on black background.

25mph maximum isn't it?

You’d do the speed on the board, from the board to the level crossing.
It’d be no different to approaching and automatic crossing in the right direction.

In the example Step3 Star has given you should be proceeding at caution. If the wrong direction board was X50, you should be proceeding at caution up to 50mph between the board and the crossing. In reality, if it was an X50 board, you’d be unlikely to actually be travelling at 50mph as that would generally be too high a speed to satisfy the requirements of travelling at caution.

Thank you again for all your replies.

As I mentioned in my original post the way it's worded in TW7 in 4.2 and then directly after in 4.3 makes it a little confusing/contradictory in my opinion.
