I can confirm that the gate is open this morning.

A fenced off section of the car park has been created. Given that the car park is effectively closed this weekend, that would suggest the gate will remain open after the weekend, as initially reported.
Thanks for confirming. I will be trying it out tomorrow!

Is there a thread for the re-organisation of the roads outside York Station apart from this one ? I ask because I am not aware of an update on progress with removal of the bridge. I had the impression this would be quite a quick process but it seems to be dragging on and on with what looks like piling of the foundations of the city wall is necessary before the bridge can be removed.

The York City Council website details that the bridge has gone and they are now piling a retaining wall and it's estimated for three months;

"https://www.york.gov.uk/major-developments/york-station-gateway/6" -

20 May 2024 - Construction work continues - As of Monday 20 May, work has begun to construct a piled retaining wall in the area where Queen Street Bridge has been removed. This will support the embankments and protect the city walls from any possible movement once the remaining parts of the bridge are removed. This work is expected to take approximately 3 months. The diversion road remains open throughout this work, but the section of the city walls between Micklegate Bar and Station Rise will be closed.

It seems to me that the pilling was something that was not anticipated when to anyone who is a regular in the area, it was obvious.
I regularly walk past the area and a lot of the time there does not appear to be any work going on so there seems to be no hurry to get it done.
