Last year there was a thread on engineering works at Guildford. Mention was made of the bridge overlooking the station and the fact the sign on the bridge contained errors. I emailed Network Rail, who said that they would replace the sign, which they now have done.

Ever so pedantic but the left hand sign spells Guildford as Guilford i.e with the first D missing.

Phone number on the right hand sign is set out wrongly - there is one dialling code for the whole of London, and it is 020. It is amazing that 21 years after the "Big Number" changes so many people still get this wrong. (Not just in London either - all 02x and 011x codes seem to suffer from this phenomenon)

(Although as the bridge in question is in Guildford all eleven digits need to be dialled anyway)

Which (if either) of the two telephone numbers is correct, and who or what is the "Railway Authority"? :s

The term replaced “Railtrack” so that signs wouldn’t need replacing if Network Rail was ever renamed…

But the significant problem apart from the spelling was that it isn‘t located “between Guildford and Farncombe”, but is on the north side of Guildford station.

However “between Woking and Havant” seems extremely vague to me, is that a new policy?

the original post and discussion is here, by the way:

The correct number is the one on the first sign - 928 2090.
So, does that effectively mean that signage at this location, which previously had the correct emergency telephone number, has now been replaced with new signage, quoting (inter alia) the wrong number?

Might need to give the 'Rail Authority' a call to let them know!

Oh, hang on... :s

If you are going to contact Network Rail do it through the helpline - 03457 11 41 41 - or the online form https://communications-crm.custhelp.com/

Don’t use the bridge strike emergency phone number, it‘s for emergencies only and the people who answer can’t do anything about the incorrect signage.

All four warning signs on the road above Weasel Hall Tunnel on the Calder Valley Line - which is effectively a longish diagonal road bridge - show an incorrect location (Hebron Bridge instead of Hebden Bridge). I shall have to get onto NR about that too.
