Given that recent aslef meeting minutes said operational from December 20/January 21 I wouldn't get too excited just yet.
Perhaps the concrete is to fill in that large hole that has been dug in the middle of the reception road.A significant amount of track has now been laid and they are concrete pouring for something at the moment![]()
I wonder if there’s significant remediation to do with underground stuff left behind by the old marshalling yard? That might also explain holes appearing and being filled...They've dug an even bigger oneThat's the one they are concreting right now!
In this case track already laid has had to be lifted so I would assume that isn't the case, unless the project plan is being read upside down!Or it is just the services for cet, lighting etc being installed as you would tend to do that first...
Nothing suprises me on the railway. Over promise and under budget.In this case track already laid has had to be lifted so I would assume that isn't the case, unless the project plan is being read upside down!

There are two 10 car roads, and two 8 car. Has been the case for a few years now...Apologies if I have missed this but does anyone know if Staines sidings will still be used once the new depot at Feltham opens? AIUI they can only take a maximum of 8 coach trains so will presumably be of limited use as everything moves to 10 car formation?

Fratton project continuing (with social distancing of course)
Teams at Fratton are managing to comply with social distancing guidelines as well as battling the weather to keep the project progressing.
Due for completion in the autumn, the wide-ranging project includes creating two-12 car sidings, a freight and berthing siding, electrical traction equipment work and a revised signalling arrangement. This will increase the train maintenance capability for us and for GWR.
Might just be easier to leave all that concrete hardstanding in place. Calling it a freight facility ticks some boxes but doesn’t mean it’ll ever be used......surprised they’re keeping a freight road.
Is anyone able to report progress on Feltham? I used to observe it several times a week, but obviously not at the moment.
Thanks. It's certainly moved on a bit from when I last saw it five weeks ago. I hope the lines meet properly when they fill in the river!As posted to Twitter today;

“So @helisean was out on Thursday and captured some shots of part of the old Feltham Marshalling Yard being brought back to life. The River Crane runs right through the site and is under the concrete cover. @NetworkRailWssx”twitter.com
What is under the concrete cover? It isn’t the River Crane as they say, I assume its water supply/sewage?
I'd have thought the constant sound of police sirens would be more intrusive for Feltham residents than a few trains being parked up.It's a water main as a local tweeted back in that Twitter conversation.
Not surprising it's full of NIMBYs complaining about it being for passenger trains yet ponder the potential for it to have been used for housing.
As a Feltham resident I take exception to this postI'd have thought the constant sound of police sirens would be more intrusive for Feltham residents than a few trains being parked up.

The Bank Holiday Weekend work saw necessary cabling and track connection work taking place. Work will continue over the coming months to connect the eastern and western parts of the depot to the mainline in time for the new trains arrive.
