Passing today they've been laying some rail out so maybe some track will be laid in the next few days?

Rail was being delivered yesterday afternoon.
Given that recent aslef meeting minutes said operational from December 20/January 21 I wouldn't get too excited just yet.

A significant amount of track has now been laid and they are concrete pouring for something at the moment :)

Perhaps the concrete is to fill in that large hole that has been dug in the middle of the reception road.

I wonder if there’s significant remediation to do with underground stuff left behind by the old marshalling yard? That might also explain holes appearing and being filled...

Or it is just the services for cet, lighting etc being installed as you would tend to do that first...

In this case track already laid has had to be lifted so I would assume that isn't the case, unless the project plan is being read upside down!

Nothing suprises me on the railway. Over promise and under budget.

It won't get approved if you're over budget when planning. It's only once it gets underway that it goes over budget...

Apologies if I have missed this but does anyone know if Staines sidings will still be used once the new depot at Feltham opens? AIUI they can only take a maximum of 8 coach trains so will presumably be of limited use as everything moves to 10 car formation?

There are two 10 car roads, and two 8 car. Has been the case for a few years now...

This was in the internal weekly news letter that may be of interest to people

Fratton project continuing (with social distancing of course)

Teams at Fratton are managing to comply with social distancing guidelines as well as battling the weather to keep the project progressing.
Due for completion in the autumn, the wide-ranging project includes creating two-12 car sidings, a freight and berthing siding, electrical traction equipment work and a revised signalling arrangement. This will increase the train maintenance capability for us and for GWR.

surprised they’re keepinga freight road.

Is anyone able to report progress on Feltham? I used to observe it several times a week, but obviously not at the moment.

There have been several recent weekend closures, so I'm guessing that the connections to the main line have been installed?

Thanks. It's certainly moved on a bit from when I last saw it five weeks ago. I hope the lines meet properly when they fill in the river!

What is under the concrete cover? It isn’t the River Crane as they say, I assume its water supply/sewage?

It's a water main as a local tweeted back in that Twitter conversation.

Not surprising it's full of NIMBYs complaining about it being for passenger trains yet ponder the potential for it to have been used for housing.

I'd have thought the constant sound of police sirens would be more intrusive for Feltham residents than a few trains being parked up.

The Bank Holiday Weekend work saw necessary cabling and track connection work taking place. Work will continue over the coming months to connect the eastern and western parts of the depot to the mainline in time for the new trains arrive.

Modern Railways reports a contract awarded for 3 additional berthing sidings at Farnham, is that more than previously expected?

I thought some changes had already happened there, back in post #18 I found some linked info that referred to only one new siding there.
