Yes, quite a good one for a change. An in-depth technical presentation about signalling and control, from their Head of System Integration.

I was on one at Heathrow Terminal 5 today and they were empty to Hayes as expected but the rear door cut in at Hayes despite their being plenty of space on the platform for it to open.
That's interesting . I could understand this being at Paddington but. I am surprised a more resilient solution isn't being used for the stations that class 345s call at such as track side beacons or other such measures platform 5 looks like it's going to be extended further when the building works are finished. The buffers are quite far down on the tracks. This I believe is due to the fact that the train knows what station it is in via GPS but cannot be accurate enough to know what platform it is in so Automatic Selective Door Operation (ASDO) defaults to the shortest platform restrictions. In that case cutting out the last door (restriction needed for the Hayes bay platform).
This is most noticeable around Maidenhead and Twyford where due to short main line platforms, the 4 rear doors on 9 coach units are cut out even though when on the relief lines the whole train is well in the station.

A movement of a unit from Old Oak Depot is currently underway.how to they move units between east and west sides atm?
are empty moves done via the tunnel or somewhere else like the North London line?
First day in passenger service for that one - replaced 345059 today which only did one return trip - should be two 9-car 345s on Hayes services as well - 360s remain on the other two Heathrow diagrams for the time being.345062 is the only 345 to Heathrow today.

I seem to have jumped to the wrong conclusion. 345002 reported elsewhere as being transferred to Ilford this morning. What is this for? Possible 9-car east side testing?A second 345 movement today from Old Oak Depot to Ilford is underway shortly. '5I17' has appeared in berth 0158 at Old Oak Depot (on the depot exit) so it would appear possible that 345017 is on the move today. My guess is that 345022 moved to Ilford yesterday since all the other west side units have been in service yesterday or today.
Maybe core testing as the pudding mill lane portal is accessible.I seem to have jumped to the wrong conclusion. 345002 reported elsewhere as being transferred to Ilford this morning. What is this for? Possible 9-car east side testing?
YesAre any 345s in service today?
Reported elsewhere as 345062 on Heathrow, 345061/65 on Hayes, 345006/07/13/15/44/47/51/63/64 on Reading services (although four of those are currently on Old Oak / Maidenhead). Are any 345s in service today?
There will definitely be 345s in service - are you asking about 9-cars specifically, or the Heathrow branch specifically? Are any 345s in service today?

Best way to check that is to look at http://iris2.rail.co.uk/tiger/rendercissod.asp?file=302008.xml&width=full&graphic=1 and see whether there is a train formed of 9 coaches going to Heathrow Airport. Although a few trips have been missed, the 345 diagram starting with 9T07 0532 London Paddington to Heathrow Airport Terminal 5 and running every 90 minutes has been solidly run with a 345 since 30 July. 360s continue on the other two diagrams.Apologies - I forgot to mention the Heathrow branch.
Yes, there appear to have been numerous problems yesterday. The Hayes services that ran involved six different units, three on each diagram, with 7-cars ending up on the evening services. Three Reading units were taken out of service at various points as well. It doesn't seem to have started well today eitherThere have been problems theast few days the 14:48 has been cancelled from Hayes &Harlington the last two days in a row. And the 14:34 from Hayes has had to run fast. The 18:38 from Ealing Broadway to reading was cancelled too yesterday

9-cars have worked solidly on Hayes shuttles since Monday 3 August (with the exception of Saturday 8 August and the evening of Wednesday 12 August as noted above). Still only one 9-car 345 diagram on Heathrow services and the open data feed suggests this will continue to be the case into September (although of course things can change and clearly this isn't in any way definitive). The 13.02 Paddington to Heathrow 5 today 17th is a nine car, 345 030.
345 059 is out as a nine car on the Hayes shuttles, xx.18 from Paddington / xx.48 from Hayes.
The unit for 9R00 1713 London Paddington to Reading has just been taken out of service at Paddington prior to this working and gone empty to Old Oak Depot.
EDIT - the Heathrow diagram unit has also retreated to Old Oak Depot instead of working 9T03 1732 London Paddington to Heathrow Airport Terminal 5.
Both (unrelated) train faults. Occurring at a shocking high level.
These 345s seem to be still messing about. I'd have expected the RLUs to be running well without issues by now but it does seem like there's faults on these units all the time.
I was on one last week that had a train fault, causing a sizable delay which can be troublesome on the GWML.
Probably a result of all the manufacturer's engineers, who would normally be fault-fixing and improving, instead having to actually finish writing the software...
AIUI development of the RLU software has more or less stopped, with resources being directed to the FLU software instead. I'm guessing any minor fixes will be in the FLU software rather than RLU.
