I like visiting places of interest related to industry both working and abandoned. We have some really unique structures such as Barton Swing aqueduct (the only one in the world), and our public footpath system allows you to get close to some very interesting sites, such as one through the middle of Tunstead lime works.

My main interest is in mining though, visting the sites and going down some of them is a great experience which gets your adrenaline going and best of all its free! The slate mines around North Wales are one of my favourite places in the UK - especially ones with bits of track and carts left down them.

History, urban or country walks, photography. All of these often tie in to my transport interests as well, for example I travel on a train or bus somewhere, go for a walk while seeing history and taking photos, of both the bus/train and the things I see on my walk.

Travelling to Europe, especially the former Eastern Bloc countries has become a huge interest over the last 5 years or so. It ties in all of my interests too.
As much as I’d love to see other parts of the world, I’m perfectly happy just seeing as many European countries as I can for now.
Obviously recent events have stopped this hobby for now though, if you can call it a hobby.

Lots of great ones - I would love to do cycling and used to do a lot of hillwalking/rock hopping but wee one is at awkward age/size where it's bit difficult to do.

Love video games, Warhammer (painting never played the tabletop) and I do love reading - if fiction sci-fri/fantasy or my more usual history and non-fiction. Further back the history the better. Also, sloooowly learning Gaelic. .....slowly though. Very.

I like taking old radios that have been thrown out and attempting to make them work again, sometimes with some success, I've currently got a bush radio circa 1950 that's in reasonably good condition to look at but its dead and needs new valves but I don't know where to find them in this day and age.

At the minute, collecting plums. The season is short so I have them in muesli, with rice, as a snack when travelling
I plan to collect enough apples to last a few months, 'saves' cash, makes quite a bit of work

As long as the greengrocer doesn't catch you, you should be OK!

The plum trees are out of town right by the rail line fortunately, dunno who they belong to
Taste good, very few are damaged by insects
It is a good place, saw a freight train, still trying to understand how the long trains shunt at the end, they are longer than the loop and are topped and tailed
Decided to take a book and a picnic, and loiter near the train station

oOOOo I've been eyeing up the damsons at my local greengrocers. I feel it's coming swiftly into Autumn and no one is gonna stop the apple, rhubarb and damsen crumble fiasco I'm gonna make!

Got into geocaching in 2011. It's a kind of treasure hunt using GPS. Quite a few are hidden near railway stations, so l often combine the two. Also collect model buses in OO scale to compliment the small railway layout in my shed

Can't resist mentioning: have just been browsing in the Cryptic Clues = Station Name section in "Quizzes and Games" -- posts #40 -- #42 above, had me thinking for a moment, that I was still there ! (No intention here, of seeming to ridicule orchard fruits and / or those who enjoy them -- altogether a grand thing !)

At the moment, I tend to spend my free time working on my 1999 (V) BMW 5 Series which I bought last year. My plan is to get it back to factory condition.

In addition to my model bus collection, I also like cooking, reading, watching football and playing golf.

For the past 33 years I've kept and bred snakes...

Also have an interest in astronomy, mainly taking images through an 8" computer controlled telescope housed in a self built observatory in the garden. I also love designing electronic projects and coding using Arduino platform, combining this with my reptile interest to design and built my own controller to maintain the environment in the enclosures used to house the snakes.

One of my hobbies is campanology (bellringing) but church bells have been silent since March. When you hear them ringing again you'll know the pandemic is well and truly over.

Wow that sounds really cool, love an old beemer.
One of my hobbies is repairing and servicing my 2003 Volvo. It's saved me a lot of money on labour costs and is actually quite rewarding.

I also like cycling, I'm planning to get a new mountain bike soon, whenever they're back in stock!

At the risk of this sounding like a Match.com bio......

Not into railways so much (mainly buses and a general love of public transport). However, I'm a keen runner and cyclist (mountain biking and road cycling). Into photography - public transport but also landscapes, architecture, street scenes... Enjoy a pint (decent ale) when out with friends but at home, have a few malt whiskies. Like to travel about across the UK and Europe.

Often try to combine a number of things so travelled to Copenhagen a couple of years ago with my fiancee. After arriving on Thursday, a trip to Malmo across the Oresund Bridge was required. Lots of photos of the city, a slightly boozy Friday night with a wander round Tivoli, then Saturday was a visit to the Design Museum and wander about and then on Sunday, ran the half marathon!

The BMW E39 is my all time favourite car, so when it came up at that price, I just had to have it. I completely agree that it feels rewarding to work on your own car.

Up to now, I've upgraded a few bits and pieces under the bonnet to improve performance while keeping it naturally aspirated. Next on the list is the MoT on Tuesday, after that I'll look at a valet for the interior, which could do with a clean but is otherwise in good condition. I need to find a replacement bootlid badge too as the "i" is missing.

Alternate History forum which is similar to this forum except the alternate history part where we discuss Alternate History. Its a brilliant forum, I'd recommend checking it out.
I’m going to have to blame you now for the hours I lost reading different post WW2 scenarios last week.
You’re right though it is very good.

Plus One for 'boring' old Volvos, I fancy a reconditioned 240 when it is time to get a vehicle again

I drive a S plate 1999 Volvo V70.... 168K miles... and in a condition that wouldn't need much work to put it back to the factory condition.... Lovely cars

As my avatar might suggest stamp collecting
I once heard someone say 'philandery' in answer to that question but, given the individual concerned, I suspect he actually meant 'philately'.

  1. Narrowboating (an expensive hobby!)
  2. Drinking real ale in traditional pubs (ties in nicely with 1.)
  3. Pop and rock music from the vinyl record era
  4. Vintage audio (for listening to 3.)
