Later this autumn I will be staying near the Tamar Valley line and rather than wandering around in the car to visit the odd branch line - was thinking of taking to the rails to do most of my travelling.

What I would like to know is are the Devon Day Ranger and Cornwall Day Ranger still available?

I seem to recall these and the individual branch line rangers for Cornwall advertised on the Devon & Cornwall Rail Partnership site - but could find no mention of them.

Only mention I could find was on National Rail enquiries for the Devon and Cornwall Ranger - and no indication if the info is up to date.

Anyone know?

Can they still be purchased from the guard as it is likely I would join the train at an unstaffed station?

Thanks

John

Both the Devon Day Ranger (£14) and Cornwall Ranger (£13.50) are still available. The only ticket that has been withdrawn is the Devon Evening Ranger.

If you are spending several days travelling across Devon and Cornwall, you might want to consider buying a Freedom of Devon & Cornwall Rover, which is available in 3 in 7 (£54) and 8 in 15 (£87) varieties.

All of these tickets can can be bought from a ticket office or (if there isn't a ticket office, or it's closed when you travel) the guard onboard the train.

Alternatively you can buy them on GWR's website here. As these rangers/rovers are only available with postal delivery, you need to book at least one working day in advance (or several days in advance for free postage).

Thanks for info I'll get one off the guard as I will either board at Gunnislake or Bere Alston am not sure what date I would want them for yet.

Are there railcard discounts with Ranger tickets?
Usual discount should be available, unless anyone knows otherwise. For example, a valid 16-25 or Senior Railcard will/should reduce the price of a Devon Ranger from £14.00 to £9.20, and the Cornwall equivalent from £13.50 to £8.90.

When I last bought a Cornwall Day Ranger it was on a Kernow bus. It does mean that it would be a ticket roll type but for that day, more convenient to buy and no acceptance issueson any bus or train.

That's a Ride Cornwall ticket rather than a Cornwall Day Ranger.
