As far as most TOCs are concerned screenshots from m-tickets are NOT valid for travel so this is duff advice from The Trainline.

This could potentially create conflict between staff & passengers.
absolutely, doesn't seem fair on rail workers tbf, i wonder what RMT would think of it.

just wanted to update you on good news! Today I finally got one of the twitter trainline correspondents to look into my issue properly, and she got back to me via email, apologised for the bad customer service, says the developers are aware of the issue with mobile tickets and are looking to fix it, and gave me half my original ticket back as compensation! (£120 so more than I requested).
Thanks all for your help!
Thats fantastic news, let's hope they address the issue (and the "open return" one... but that's for another thread), well done for your perseverance, on the ground some of these retailers cause us Revenue Protection staff several unnecessary issues that ultimately can cause a loss on confidence in the railway.

Very duff. I know nothing of the sort that they've claimed. I've worked it out myself once or twice when m-tickets were more common, but I'm not aware of ever being formally told to accept booking confirmations or expired tickets as a workaround.

So far as I know there's nothing to stop screenshots of them on Android - I've done it for delay claims in the past.

Veering OT, but Android can now prevent screenshots being taken of apps, but it needs to have been enabled by the app developers by marking the app as "Sensitive" (eg a banking app) and also requires that the phone is running a recent version of Android. I think it might have come in with Android 11 but definitely exists in Android 12.

The Railcard app, for one, has this enabled.

In this case, it's ALL retailers of m-tickets. Why rail companies persist in issuing m-tickets when they create you so many problems is the real question.

The bigger question is how something which is evidently flawed in concept (in that it doesn't conform to the actual validity of the tickets) was signed off for roll-out in the first place!
