I don't normally pay much attention to liveries, but today at Leeds saw an lner class 91+mk4 with red area that looked like it had been applied by some chap with a rattle can. Is that really the best they can do?

The Mark 4s are all to gain a new livery over the coming months to replace the tired red and white vinyls which they’ve carried since 2015.

The new livery, despite looking incredibly similar, is supposedly not at all based on Intercity Swallow.

Good news on so many levels - it's a good design choice, also as you say the grey/white scheme has worn and needs replacing and the investment suggests that the sets will be around for a bit anyway !

Nope, Not at all...

The DVT is pretty much in Swallow with an LNER "Azuma" twist though. There are a lot of similarities, but with a slightly more updated twist.

Would be great if that starts reappearing on all previous ex-IC regions!

Didn't realise they were getting a new livery. It looks nice, but I'm sort of disappointed they went down the nostalgia route. I would have preferred an actual new livery.
It is new though, it's "not" based on InterCity ;)

Presumably the TfW sets are due for a similar repaint? Would be slightly weird if they retained the ex-VTEC/LNER stickers when the LNER sets themselves don’t

Presumably they will get some version of the standard TfW livery - seems odd that they didn't have any done during the long period before introducing them to service.

I understood the TfW sets were not being repainted/revinyled, unless something's changed.

They're going to have to do something fairly soon - the VTEC vinyls are looking really tired now. Hardly a good look for their 'premium' service!

They are due a repaint/refresh when the SDO is fitted. AFAIK the plan is now for them to come out in a similar livery to the ex-GC sets but with a red stripe rather than orange.

Which would mean they won't match the DVTs and locos already painted in the standard TfW livery!

How very odd. I assume it will be some sort of “Express” branding

They don't at the moment either though, the current DVTs are mostly covered by the advertising liveries and there's a few non-tfw liveried 67s in the modified pool. Even the repainted 67s don't match the coaches although at least they are red and white!

Nice, first I've heard of this but I approve!

Let's face it, we all want InterCity Swallow back as soon as GBR really gets going, it's a good first step

For a livery that is supposed to be a new design and not an adapted version of Intercity Swallow, it doesn’t half look like Intercity Swallow!

I think it looks good. Intercity Swallow has always suited the 91s and Mark 4s, and the Azuma inspired brown actually looks alright in this case. When I first heard “Azuma inspired” I was worried they’d try copying the Angry Birds style red cab ends, which as good as they look on the 80xs would have been utterly hideous on the 91s and DVTs because the shape of them simply wouldn’t suit such a design.

Peel them off? Or else restick them? Who knows.
Ironically peeling the vinyls off the the TFW Mark 4s would leave them pretty much in standard TFW livery, as underneath the vinyls remains East Coast grey, but as mentioned above the black window bands are painted. TFW’s standard livery is of course… Grey with black window bands!
