Why is Fosters beer so popular?

As far as I know there's very few in Cambridge and the surrounding area.

The Regal (Wetherspoons) in the city centre is by far the cheapest I'm aware of and has some for well under £5.
You should try Calverley’s at the bottom of Hooper Street, some stuff at a fiver or above but some stuff at 4:50 (not bad for Cambridge)

I’m not a lager drinker but Mrs Hill was partial to Grolsch. It didn’t taste too bad. Some brewers now produce regional lagers like St Austell’s Korev lager or Exeter Brewery’s IPL. Schiehallion Lager from Harviestoun was tasty. It used to available on hand pump but I haven’t seen it for a while.

The reaction a Beer Snob made once I told them their Dark German Dunkel might be a dark Lager was priceless. The connoisseur believed he was drinking some German Real Ale.
If I sense a CAMRA bore descending on me, I instinctively ask the bar steward for a Lager.

Schiehallion is still widely available in Scotland. Just seen it on sale at the Clydesdale in Lanark.

Coors have the right to sell San Miguel in the UK.
Coors tied pubs, not pub-co's but free houses who have a deal with Coors can provide free cellar services (cooling etc) to free houses if they sign up for a contract and with with barrelage discount.
They are getting rid of Staropramen in my local as Coors want Madri on, they dont have much choice in the matter.
Never heard of Madri until reading this thread today and this afternoon spotted Madri in Costco at a very reasonable price so invested in a box of 12.
Hope it’s OK!

I've never tasted it, let me know what you think.
I've only had one opinion and that wasn't a good one.

My local brewery(Rebellion) does a decent wheatbeer in bottles and on draft.
Lidl own make is ok but I do like the HB one out of the ones available in this country.
I had an amazing one in Nuremburg, I wish I took the name of it
Rebellion do make very good beers

Hofmeister was withdrawn many years ago and the dormant brand name sold on. The new owner have rebrewed Hofmeister to high end standards. The only thing the old and new have in common is the name
Interesting, I didn’t know this. Definitely seems a good quality beer now. Their wheat beer is also rather good.

I've not been in Calverley's, but I see it's right near the railway line.

Apparently they've also got the bar in the former engineer's house at The Museum Of Technology site on Riverside, where the pair of preserved Hathorn Davey steam pumping engines are.

So I believe, the bar at the tech museum’ll be worth a visit next weekend as the the engine(s)’ll will be operational.

I first became aware of Foster's watching my second favourite comedy film, The Adventures of Barry McKenzie, in 1972. This had endless scenes of the protagonists "cracking tube after tube" and eventually standing in a circle and doing a no. 1 to put out a fire. The film also has the funniest gag of all time which I won't repeat as I don't do spoilers. I was surprised that tubes of the so-called amber nectar were available in Pommie-land, so I tried one. I was not impressed.

The film also has a glorious folk song, the message perhaps being that Fosters is so cold and gassy that you are more likely to be talking to God down the great white telephone or having technicolour yawns before you get even half, let alone three parts cut!
