I've been wondering something. Does anyone remember a single West Ham or Wolves game this season?

I saw West Ham v Newcastle highlights, I don’t think the hammers keeper will be putting it in his greatest matches video…

Brighton 6-0 Wolves
Remember it because most of my pub friends support the Wolves.
Alright that's the exception. Apart from both of Wolves' meetings with Brighton I don't remember a single Wolves or West Ham game

I remember one West Ham game. They played Man City in the first round of fixtures and Haaland scored his first goals. But I don’t remember anything about West Ham from the game

Does time wasting work, or do referees mostly add on the extra time?
If we're talking about the FA Cup final, maybe, maybe not. Minimum of just four minutes added on.

Might have been somewhat more had it been a 2022 World Cup match in Qatar.

Probably less so in the big games - there was notably more added time in the play-offs last weekend than there would have been in normal league matches.

Ross County will have to play far better in the second play-off leg against Partick Thistle if they are to retain their place in the top flight.
Ross County were 2-0 down after the first leg and won 3-1 in this second leg to take the match to extra time, which still remained level score, so it was yet another play-off match final that went to penalties.

Ross County won the penalty shoot-out 5-4 and retain their place in next season's top flight.

So apparently Wigan have a new owner again.
In the last couple of years we have had Danny Choi's International Entertainment Corporation a Chinese casino operator who used the club as a tax writeoff and stopped putting any money in whatsoever while refusing to sell the club on as he needed it to go into administration. Then we had Phoenix International owned by the Bahraini Royal Family whose financing model seemed to rely on the club remaining in League 1 and all was well until they got promoted to the Championship and they didnt have the liquidity to pay Championship salaries (due to many players having promotion salary bump contracts), regularly missing wage payments. (My theory is they invested in it seeing it merely as an asset that could appreciate in value).

So now rumours flying left and right about this new owner, that they are British, that they have a non controlling stake in another local sports team (not rugby), people denying its Ian Lenagan who owns Wigan Warriors (had a 4 year stint as Chairman of the FA and previously owned Oxford United). Some suggesting they are a solo owners while others saying consortium, some saying they are connected to a large Swiss company and Intersport who became the kit sponsor a decade ago (2014-2018) are swiss.

Subject to EFL approval. Worth bearing in mind that this has undoubtedly become tougher of late and that Morecambe have been in that position for several months now.

The gentleman in question…

As an F1 fan there’s more than a whiff of William Storey aka Mr Rich Energy about this deal (s). It’s hard to see how he can pass an EFL financial test although it doesn’t seem like the Morecambe deal has even got that far.

Dire state of affairs for Wigan Athletic (and Morecambe) What’s needed is a move to a fan owned Exeter type model but that takes funding in the meantime to pay wages, settle debts, and enable a stable financial situation. There was a general feeling that times would be difficult when Dave Whelan had to finally step aside but it’s been far worse than could have been imagined.

On his own Lenagan doesn’t have the money required.

He already has a long term lease on the DW Stadium for his odd shaped ball activities.

Joint ownership of an AFC and RLFC club can work, indeed sometimes it can save one or the other from going under... but owners are human beings with their own biases and preferences, so it can end up with the entity that isn't the main focus of the owner playing second-fiddle. Several years ago the owner of Huddersfield RLFC took control of Huddersfield Town AFC because if Town went under the "Giants" would have been dragged down too. Whilst I'm grateful for the intervention, I'm under no illusion that it was motivated by anything other than a desire to protect the interests of the egg-chasers. The subsequent arrangement over the stadium ownership (the AFC club's shares in the stadium were placed into a trust fund managed by the son of the RL club's owner) became a bugbear for many HTAFC fans, and is one of the reasons I now support Batley RLFC rather than Huddersfield.

Hopefully Wigan won't get shafted in the same way. I do wish Rugby League would dispense with the daft American-style team names though!

A lot of Wigan RL fans have long campaigned for a new stadium that they can call there own. DW is far too big and that's before you bring in the shenanigans at Athletic that could potentially put them at risk.

It's got as far as the EFL, but not as far as passing their tests even after 6 months or more (see below the EFL statement of 17 February 2023). It's difficult to see how he can do better with Wigan.
Whilst some of the information requested several months ago has been received, further details are still required, and the League has invited Mr Johal and his advisers to a meeting later this month to discuss further the proposed transaction.

Bury FC will play home games at Gigg Lane next season. Fans voted to merge Bury FC and Bury AFC and there now seems to be progress.

With the FA having given approval for the new/merged club to be called Bury Football Club and known as Bury.

Would the fact that both those two Bury teams have conjoined leave an unfilled position in one of the leagues they played in?
No. There was only one Bury team operational in the NLS (= National League System) last season. (= Bury AFC).

The Rugby club averages 14,000, football only averages 12,000.
