There are monthly DMUs running to Mountsorrel on the GCR branch line.

Here it is at Leicester North.

Doesn't count as preserved if its not repainted BR green...

Or that's how it seems to be anyway.

i understand why railways do that but it is very dull!
I can understand that argument for locomotives, but the inclusion of speed whiskers for DMU’s gives BR Green a bit more merit in my opinion.

GCR have a 101 in BR Blue…

Yes there is the odd unit in something other than green, but they are few and far between.

BR Green is over represented compared to other liveries carried by the 1st gen DMUs.

Perhaps now some 2nd gen units have been preserved, we could start to see a handful of 1st gen units in sectorisation era liveries.

I personally hate the BR green and maroon liveries, totally over represented. In fact I'd like to see MK1 coaches and DMUs in any colour other than maroon or green.

There's so many liveries to choose from.

I agree on the green DMUs although I do like the whiskers as someone else said. Shouldn't be long till the KWVR 101 is revealed. I suspect that won't be in green although I don't know.

I think I saw something somewhere, that that is in Regional Railways. I'd be happy with that as there isn't too much of it around in Preservation.

Not sure it's been announced publicly. I've heard three different rumours so just ignoring all of them now.

The rail motor/railcar/'unit' looks terrific. GCR is a class act. Yet another reason to spend more time in such areas instead of London if one's a foreign visiting railway enthusiast.

Sorry to disappoint many locals, but as a foreigner the green livery is far more appealing. When young, I was fortunate to be in the UK in c.1993 to travel on similar railcars motoring along at probably 100kmh on the main line to Cornwall, as I covered all the branches in a day, starting at Penzance, and recall these railcars providing me with main line connections. Fast and furious. Enjoyable.

What liveries have you heard, out of interest?
Blue, regional, blue and grey, but they are all rumours. I volunteer at KWVR and I am none the wiser, although to be fair I haven't asked, and if I had I wouldn't be posting here till they released the info publicly. When I walked past the other day it looked like it's refurbishment was progressing well so it shouldn't be long till we find out. I suspect their KWVR railcar group Facebook page will be the first place the information is released.

Like this one at the Midland Railway?

I love this livery - Provincial Sector. Only used on 142s, 143s and a departmental class 100 DMU as far as I know.

Blue, regional, blue and grey, but they are all rumours.
Blue grey would be my favourite, but Regional would be just as welcome - either livery would be great with the Metro 144. Blue would be better than green, but it'd not be contemporary with the Metro 144.

That’s why I think RR is the most likely. Goes fairly well alongside all the grey diesels and the WYPTE Pacer.

The PVR’s 142023 will receive Western Skipper livery in the not to distant future :D

Blue/Grey with Metrotrain logos would match 144011 better which is in the livery with the older logo for the 1986-88 period. RR livery didn’t come until 1991.

But never carried previously by that unit as it was delivered in GMPTE colours.

Somewhere between Waverley and Queen Street.

Presumably these slightly drab colours weather and age more slowly, plus the economy of scale is achieved if you only have to buy one colour in bulk?

I'm not a fan of blood and custard either, or whatever the brighter variant of that is called.

Bo'ness (who I've got to stop picking on) keep their diesel fleet pegged visually in the BR blue and Large Logo era, but don't have any Mk1s in blue-grey to complete the look. Yes, I appreciate there are different departments and groups at play, but blue diesels hauling maroon carriages doesn't look entirely right.

It's not that maroon is a bad livery, or green for that matter. I just wish railways would show a more diverse range of periods rather than 1957-1963.

I love Crimson and cream. Harder to keep clean but looks great with lined BR Black locos.
