It was as clear as day a red card. Zero attempt to wrap at any point and the panel this time were spot on in agreeing with the officials on the day.

Fantastic opening game for this year's World Cup.

Some great play from both sides, but France deserved 27-13 winners.

I don't think France were at their best either, which only bodes well for them.

Notably, France full back Melvyn Jaminet scored his first international try late on.

Indeed, bien joué á la France - I thought NZ might come out and show the French what was what in the 2nd half but Les Blues were all over them. The sin bin was game shot.

Japan v Chile was a great game. A really good World Cup debut from the Chileans.

Enjoyed Scotland v South Africa. Can only see France or Ireland stopping the Springboks on current form.

However, Kriel should have been sent off. No question. Direct head contact, no attempt to lower height.

If Curry's challenge was a red, so was that one. Shocking consistency.

Good first half for Scotland restricting it to 6-3, but they fell away badly after the break. South Africa look good!

Let’s not talk about the second half! Where that South African team emerged from was a mystery but they deserved the win

Another fantastic game, Fiji very unlucky at the end.

Wales deserved the win though. Dan Biggar on fine form.
I expect Fiji will be seething with that result. Between knocking on over the tryline twice, several calls going against them from the referee, and then Radradra fumbling the ball in clear space near the tryline on the final play.

As a wearer of a red shirt, I feel lucky to have secured that win.

Tom Curry has been banned for the next two Rugby World Cup matches.

Meanwhile, Jesse Kriel gets away with a similar incident scot-free.

The lack of consistency in rugby is an utter shambles.

England 34 Japan 12. Quite scrappy at times, but England took control towards the end! A fourth try, in the last minute, produced a bonus point.

It was very scrappy indeed. Disjointed, at times. We need to up our game.

We need to stop kicking the ball away after a few phases of play. More ball carrying needed.

Great assist from Joe Marler for Courtney Lawes' try though.

An absolutely magnificent fourteen try performance from France. Take a bow, Les Bleus.

Their deserved 96-0 win is now their outright record.

Hopefully the injury to Antoine Dupont, a joy to watch as always, is not serious.

Also of note, Charles Ollivon, who stepped up as captain, scored France's 200th World Cup try.

Dupont is reported to have a facial fracture - I think that's his World Cup done sadly : I've had a fractured cheekbone before, albeit a depressed fracture, with breaks in 4 places done while wicketkeeping - I can't see there is any way he'll be remotely near playing before the mid/end of November...

England beat Chile 71-0 to reach the Quarter Finals of the World Cup! They cannot now finish below second place in their group, even if they lose their final group game against Samoa.

I'm finally back down off the ceiling after the Ireland-SA match last night. We proved our mettle against the best once again but all it probably means is that, if we beat Scotland, we would face the ABs in the quarters instead of France. And we've never been beyond the quarters before...

Well, as a Scotland supporter, we've been shafted from the get-go in this pool!
We've got to beat Tonga with a BP, Romania with a BP and then Ireland with a BP (denying them a losing BP) to stand any chance of escape...

We don’t need four tries against Ireland if we can prevent them getting the losing bonus point. Both teams would be on 14 and the first tie breaker is head to head.
Though to be honest the chances of that are minuscule, given our recent record against Ireland.

I’ve seen talk about pushing on with the expansion to 24 teams and having 6x4 pools. Which might bring different problems, but would spread out the teams.

The Springboks were awful last night.

They lost 11 of 14 points from the tee with their dreadful kicking, plus a number of try scoring chances were lost.

Ireland far less wasteful, so deserved winners. Can they go past the quarters though?

I thought we were excellent yesterday. A real joy to watch.

Henry Arundell is a nailed on starter, for me. I like Marcus Smith at full back too.

No just the same as the first, Wales are 32-6 up with a quarter of the game to go.
Where will Eddie Jones go next - Japan?

Wales won 40-6, bye bye Eddie.

Oh yes Australia were woeful! NEVER seen them so bad - incedible - it used to be Wales v Australia were 1 or 2 point games - this was nuts. Wales were good but not THAT good they did not need to be!

Wales were immense. I was a bit worried at half time that they'd run out of steam because they'd put so much into the first half, but they kept going right to the end. Anscombe was brilliant, and a few bits of luck went their way too (I think Tompkins was offside in front of the kick for his try) but never mind
