Very nice moquette, the exterior of the train didn't seem to have had any attention though (and looks like it could have done with some) why do LU do this? Same thing with the Bakerloo trains.

Moquette is great. The announcements definitely need tweaking to trigger just a second or two earlier.

I stand by my concern that it's a waste of space/time on the displays to scroll through the announcements verbatim rather than the same information in concise written form. Plenty of space to just flash up "Mind the Gap" and then the station name rather than scrolling interminably through 'please mind the gap between the train and the platform, this is…' particularly when people need that information to make a split second decision.

…it sounds like they made the door open chime 'compliant', or different from the closing sound, by just having it repeat a few times? Ouch. It sounds tragic. Would the budget really not stretch to a new set of buzzers for a proper two-tone door opening chime?

Those traction sounds has my head spinning haha, just so wierd to hear S7/ 2009 stock traction sounds over the old washing machine traction whine. Looks a decent refresh, could be better exterior wise but heck!

Very smart indeed. The accessible area looks like the same as on the Waterloo & City, makes sense.

Bit of a weird mix of the loved and unloved though. The shiny new scrolling screen is below a 'Ventilator' sign with missing letters...

My observations that the moquette looked darker proved to be correct? I wonder if they might carry this on when the Central Line eventually gets new trains.

Are the W&C getting new moquettes? Probably a waste of time to replace them.

Thank goodness. Makes it more likely hopefully that the S Stock will get something decent too and not Barman
Can't imagine the S Stock getting Barman, probably will be a variant of the current moquette.

I wonder why both the 1972 and 1992 stock have opted for perch seats rather than flip up seats? I assume it's cost reasons.

Wow, very retro moquette, but I like it!
I think it looks a bit dated. I think its the grey parts.

The 1996 stock does this. It flashes only the station name rather than "This is __" as per announcements, and says "Destination: ___" rather than "This train terminates at ___" as per announcements.

lf you look at the pictures / videos you can see the side of the train in the disabled area contains unlockable panels covering equipment that used to be under the seats. l would take it that these panels are not designed to carry the weight of people hanging off them. lt also can often be very difficult to get people to give up their tip up seats even when there is someone in a wheelchair physically in front of them! Not having to force someone to get off a seat in order to get into the designated safe space is probably quite beneficial.

As an aside, now these are being rolled out, l hope there are plans to build humps or carry out other platform adjustments to allow for level boarding. No stations on the Central line offer level boarding and require the use of manual boarding ramps, even stations which have recently been refurbished and have had humps fitted for other lines.

I think the referbished interior appears extremely swish and has finally given these long neglected trains a chance to shine, I especially love the new grey and red moquette with roundals in a linear pattern. Interestingly the moquette reminds me of the original Jonathon Sothcott designed original moquette that said trains used to carry up until 2011. I am slo glad to see a break from the repetitive Barman design for now at least.

Somewhere, not in London

Space availability.

Fitting the turning space in with tip up seats wasn't possible on Central Line, and although possible on Bakerloo Line, would have resulted in not enough space for the equipment that needs to be behind there.

I assume this is the case for the 1996 stock as well.

Well that moquette is just wonderful isn't it, what a surprise. The lighter areas of flooring around the doors also really help lift these trains inside.

The only disappointment is this newly refurbished train turning up with some of the roundels half rubbed off on the exterior.

Looks nice will have to try get one when I am back in London December time.
Announcements sounds too robotic to me.
Have the cabs had any change?

I too love it and honestly did expect a Barman variation, but even inside they haven't replaced peeling stickers on the doors either. Why ?

Looks excellent. The moquette is a really nice touch. Good that it finally has wheelchair spaces. Did they finally add CCTV?

The only thing I don't like is that they kept the gloomy beige plastic. When the 96 stock was refurbished, changing from beige to white plastic (and adding brighter lighting) was a night and day transformation. I think with the window shading on the 92 it would have made such a difference to the interior ambience.

First train running in-service today: 10:30 from Hainault (towards Woodford) – 91001 & 91201, back at Hainault by 11:25.
Ah, I have been watching this thread and social media for when the first train would run! I’m a bit disappointed that I missed this as I would have otherwise gone there, but it seems like this was all very last minute. Clearly this was known, as I could see Geoff Marshall and some other train enthusiasts in the photos. If you don’t mind saying, where did you find this information?

Have to admit, I'm quite liking the new voice of the Central Line trains which I know is also going to the voice of the Bakerloo Line trains. They could easily make a new W&C announcement using Waterloo from the Bakerloo Line and City from White City on the Central plus any of the existing changes to whatever lines.

Bit disappointing with regard to the small details of a refresh, such as the Underground roundels all rubbed out on the outside of the train and the stickers faded on the inside and peeling off, scratched window on the door besides that the moquette looks lovely in my opinion, bit of heritage and a splash of modernity in there in my opinion. Just wish it was a good ol' scrub up for these workhorses!

CCTV has been added.

Completely agree about the beige. I'd also like to haven't seen armrests reinstated, for which I understand a more robust design exists. However, it seems that funding for the whole project was touch and go so clearly only certain elements could be incorporated.

So I have heard that after a few public runs this train will return for some further work. I'm hoping we'll see the roundels addressed then.

Do we know if this 'more robust design' for the armrests is used on the W&C line or is it the originals that have survived?

Wouldn't be surprised if the originals have survived on the W&C but not the Central, due to the difference in 'clientele' on the two lines - the W&C customers being less inclined to kick them hard enough to break them off!

As CCTV has been added, I hope that the risk of potential vandalism is now no longer an excuse to not add stuff like armrests to the trains.
