Paths available next week for additional T141 and T142 running between Ruislip and Hainault depots in service, no guarantee they will both run.
Thanks for the heads up, I'll keep a look out when I'm at Ruislip next week. I note #142 is currently running today with CLIP set 2. Do you know the reason it's running to Ruislip Gardens and reversing in West Ruislip Depot rather than West Ruislip station?

Ah ok, just doesn't fit in with rest of the timetable then.

It also allows the paths to work if not all are going to be used (as yesterday) or if the project needs to transfer a set from one depot to the other. 142 is the set of paths starting and ending at Hainault Depot, 141 starts and ends from Ruislip Depot. At present both trains have been at or working from Hainault Depot.

Ah great stuff, thanks for the info :D

Using these paths means they are still only getting short reliability proving runs. Hasn't at least 1 of the trains been released for more general use yet ? - this would speed up the proving process, help the continuing stock shortage & presumably enable the next one to go to CLIP

Two trains have been released and have been in service.
Five trains are at Acton Works in CLIP.

Service use is constrained by the number of Train Operators who have had the required training and are qualified to drive the rebuilt trains. At present, they are predominantly being driven by a limited pool of Instructor Operators. With only one train available, the main training programme could not commence because the newly trained operators would have a high chance of not encountering the CLIP train sufficiently regularly enough to maintain their competency. Thus special paths are available to enable the train's use to be planned around the availability of the correctly qualified T/Ops. The first train is due to be handed over from the CLIP Project to 'normal operation' in the next few weeks, but this will still depend on the cohort of staff that are already qualified, so will continue to use the specific paths. When two or three trains handed over for routine operation, the general T/Op training can begin in earnest - the next necessary step towards being able to be used on any normal set working.

Thanks for explanation - just goes to show how much equipment has been replaced and functionality changed (unlike a classic overhaul/refurb)

No, 91001/201 has been out quite a bit recently on various workings, the 2nd set which is 91093/109 has been out a few times and only seen that on a #141/142.

The first Clip train is now available for full service, subject to driver familiarisation, and as such can be allocated to any working.

The 141/142 series are generally used for the trains still undergoing in service testing, to keep them close to Hainault, and there are specific test paths numbered 151 and 152 to allow them to go further afield.

As an aside, “running board” isn’t a term known or used within LUL. The three digit numbers used here are train numbers, and there are others that are associated with crew duties.

Saw one out in the wild on Wednesday - was waiting for an eastbound Central line train at Shepherd's Bush, and a train came in on the westbound looking noticeably brighter inside - I could see the new screens on the inside but they didn't seem to be displaying anything at that time. Looked a fair improvement on the normal knackered interiors at least.

Any ideas on what they will be doing next week? Is there any way of knowing what CLIP 1 will be doing or will it just be randomly allocated?

It seems to be sticking to trains that start or finish at Hainault, but there's no easy (public) way of predicting what services it might be allocated to. As with any train, it may be in service or it may not be - but Intertube should be able to help track it down if it is out.

Yup used intertube to locate and have a ride on it yesterday as I happened to be at Green Park when 91001/201 on 115 was shown to be at Mile End heading to Ealing Broadway
The destination on the front did not work neither was there any indication visual or audiable of where it was going
I am surprised it is allowed to run in service

The destination boards on the train have been playing up recently (not sure if this has been reported)

The enginers must have read this
Caught it again yesterday and interior and exterior audio and visual perfect
( I was in leading Car this time but had been in trailing one before to be fair)

They'd be even more perfect when they ditch Adrien's auto announcements in favour of the proposed female voice.

DC motors sound so much better.
Frankly who cares about the sound if the maintainability, reliability and performance are improved. Enthusiasts are fine until they actually negatively impact the service by asking to retain obsolete equipment.

I agree!

Okay? They're not in the power to stop the refurbishment programme, they were just expressing their opinion on the motor sound. Did that require the snarkiness?

I agree. The travelling public is what should matter here, not enthusiasts.

The relative 'niceness' of the sound is - just like seat comfort - completely subjective. I don't believe that l was "snarky" but was being very clear about what the priorities should rightly be. In general a public transport service can't be a museum.

I use those trains regularly and improved reliability is desperately required.

Again I completely agree. I think enthusiasts often think that the railway is run for their benefit. It’s regular users that give the railway (or tube!) the most money so they must be top priority. Particularly as the enthusiast that started this has a thumbnail of ‘Chathill’ suggesting they may not use the line very often.

TBF while I agree the railways shouldn't be run purely for the joy of enthusiasts (except the occasional heritage day, which does generate income), I don't think it was unreasonable for 7522 to express his view that he prefers the DC motor sounds. This is a discussion forum after all, and he hadn't at any point implied the refurbishment should be ground to a halt - it anything I suspect was more wishful thinking!

I will slso miss the sounds that the motors make but accept that they cannot be retained. There's no harm in lamenting things that will shortly become history

it’s a good job, then, that the W&C 92TS is not being retractioned! You’ll get your DC motor fix - best of both worlds!
