Trivia: Stations that primarily serve business parks

Bermuda Park between Nuneaton and Bedworth. Only industrial/business units, retail park, cinema and Premier Inn are nearby.

What functions cannot be performed by Ticket Vending Machines, and why?

The TVM I use at Kidsgrove gives you the option to purchase Plusbus if it's available for the destination you are travelling to, in conjunction with purchasing a ticket for that destination.

What functions cannot be performed by Ticket Vending Machines, and why?

The TVM at Kidsgrove (operated by EMR) doesn't sell rovers. It also states it sells super off peak tickets but doesn't offer the 'LNWR only' super off peak to London or other destinations en-route, only the 'LNWR only' off peak version or the much more expensive 'any operator' version, so you...

    Ticket Office Services post closure

Thank you. That's handy to know as my local station ticket office (Kidsgrove) is one of those due to close and the TVM does not sell rovers or rangers.

TRIVIA - big town, little platforms

Lincoln (St Marks) and Grimsby Town spring to mind. Used to be served by full length intercity trains to Kings Cross that were too long to fit on the platform. I think Lincoln (Central) is still served by at least one 9 coach Azuma a day to Kings Cross (as already mentioned elsewhere by another...

Longer Distance Service You Didn't Expect Without Changing

I recall that the 1995/96 Birmingham - Ramsgate formed a return working from Ramsgate to Edinburgh via the West Midlands. Never realised that some of your aforementioned Coventry - Paignton services also picked up at Stechford or that the New Street stops were unadvertised/pick up only.

Longer Distance Service You Didn't Expect Without Changing

Until the late 60'/early 70's there was a summer Saturday only direct train from Birmingham and Coventry through to Ramsgate that served Margate, Broadstairs and even Dumpton Park. Required 'seat regulation tickets'. Can't remember when it ended? Can't remember if it was 'advertised as non stop'...

    East Midlands Railway overcrowding issues

I think the splitting and joining at Leicester has been looked at before and they decided against it due to the extra time taken to spilt and join and the knock on effects for capacity, punctuality, reliability etc if the units to be split or joined are running late

    East Midlands Railway overcrowding issues

EMR could double up many London services now, but don't. They leave units lying in the sidings at Cricklewood all day solely to use during the peaks. Stagecoach did the same when they ran it as EMR; HST's and 5 and 7 car Meridians lying in the sidings at Cricklewood most of the day while...

How was it decided which BR sector managed a station, and when did this designation of stations first start?

I didn't realise, or failed to notice, that some of the other London terminals and Manchester Piccadilly had differential signage. Yes, Watford, Milton Keynes, Luton, Bedford and Stevenage all had NSE signage throughout and Reading had IC signage on the main platforms and NSE on the bays.

How was it decided which BR sector managed a station, and when did this designation of stations first start?

I was just curious about Harwich PQ and London Victoria due to the 'part signage' only whereas as at other Intercity stations, even where Intercity were not the main operator, such as at Carlisle, had the Intercity signage etc applied throughout.

How was it decided which BR sector managed a station, and when did this designation of stations first start?

From my recollection, Harwich Parkeston Quay (as it was then) had Intercity station signage, including the illuminated one, on the platform adjacent to the quayside only and no signage at all on the other platforms. London Victoria also had Intercity signage on the Gatwick Express platforms and...

    Things to see in Derby

Day trip by rail to Matlock or Matlock Bath from Derby is also worth considering. Lovely scenery en route and when you arrive at destination, along with seaside resort type attractions, riverside locations/boat hire options and cable car trip across the stunning Derwent gorge at Matlock Bath...

    East Midlands Railway overcrowding issues

Two of the five cars on some of these 222 services are entirely first class, which makes it even worse than before the conversion and is totally disproportionate to the amount of standard accommodation available. One of these first class carriages really should be converted to standard to...
