    Keygo, brighton, thameslink & engineering

Hi, I’m planning to travel Brighton-London Bridge next saturday for a social event. This means I can use a thameslink only ticket - significantly cheaper at the weekend than southern. In recent years I’ve been using KeyGo ie payg, and always been charged correctly. It has the benefit of...

    Still confused over smartcards

@MrJeeves Thanks for the reply. As a techie, In part the email was an outlet of frustration over the ticket fragmentation - particularly in terms of formats that can be used (as opposed to pricing), where I see stations have rfid readers & barcode scanners. Smartcards in particular fell way...

    Still confused over smartcards

I have a gtr key Smartcard. Key go is active which works great for journeys Brighton-London etc (but no travel card) . No thinking ahead, railcard included. I also have a swr railcard where I could also add payg. Today I needed to travel portslade-Portsmouth. I can’t use payg as some options...

Solution reached to save Day Travelcards

Good news (and somewhat surprising?), but I guess for me it will come down to what the 'small increase' is. It's about £5 less for a travelcard than return+z1-2 daily cap (more for other zones). My guess is a £1-2 increase.

    Availability of Travelcards on smartcards

Yes I have. This also also affects ticket office/TVM After reading some more recent comments, I suspect this is specific to the super off peak thameslink only - not available due to gateline programming?

    PlusBus dying off?

In Brighton I may want plusbus to apply locally, as part of my rail journey. GTR's 'keygo' works great for this as I can tap it in/out on the bus, and in/out on the train and it charges the correct plusbus far. If not train component it will charge the correct capped bus fare. Works super...

Why can't Railcard discounts be automatically applied?

A very specific case, but if using Thamelink 'keygo' PAYG option, the railcard is linked, and then one travels as normal, with discounts automatically applied. Works great, within the limitations of - can't use on underground/bus in london - only for GTR stations (mostly) - can't use split...

    Trip.com Digital Railcards

I bought a discounted railcard with trainpal. I just tried the iOS app. First I turned the phone into airplane mode. Launched the trainpal app, and was able to show the railcard just fine

    Availability of Travelcards on smartcards

This irks me too. Each time we decide to take a leisure trip to London (from Brighton) at the weekend we'll typically have to buy a PAPER travelcard. It's a great price (thameslink only, super off peak, zones 1-6) but it seems to be 50/50 on whether the ticket is still readable by the end of the...

Southern Daysave - what's the catch?

presumably the argument about not allowing *brand* specific pricing, could just as easily be used to justify the removal of 'thameslink only' pricing (very nice, especially for day trips brighton-london), as for being able to use GX. Personally? I'd rather keep the thameslink only....!

Brighton to London Bridge vs Victoria

I live in Brighton and do visit London, so a question on this. The usual route would be via St Pancras, but a direct route is slightly cheaper ( super off peak, and off peak) at least assuming the thameslink route. Are there other London destinations around Victoria/further west where this...

    Eurostar & strikes

I have a eurostar journey booked in January. I’ll be travelling from Brighton, and usually just get a ticket on the day (or use my smart card payg). With strikes looming, I’m considering getting the brighton-london CIV ticket, thinking this might make any refunds/delays easier to manage (though...

    KeyGo - smart tap/go ticketing

Apologies I'm not familiar with all the terminology - but WebTIS would be used when purchasing from many details/TOCs online? I had wondered if I could buy a travel card online, and then load it onto the key smart card via phone (iOS) but not found any specific way to do that yet? The reference...

    KeyGo - smart tap/go ticketing

@MrJeeves thanks - one clarification on my travel card case : a) The thameslink super off peak travel card is not available via tvm or office it seems b) specifically having keygo dynamically add a travel card, as it does for pluses, would be amazing ...
