    November rail strikes

My family are planning for us to meet up for my eightieth birthday on 13th November. We will be travelling by train from Spain via London to Penrith. Would anyone gaze into their crystal ball for me and tell me what the likelihood of strikes will be then? Any comments much appreciated.

Leeds station is currently the busiest in the north

I remember Birmingham New Street used to be like that until they rebuilt it - fumes and noise.

Leeds station is currently the busiest in the north

Many thanks, plug wash. The item in the Guardian was referring to England and, as is quite normal with the Gruand, they got it wrong. Manchester Piccadilly it is!

Leeds station is currently the busiest in the north

I saw this inn today's Guardian as part of an article about the possible cancellation of the northern leg of HS2. Is Leeds station the busiest in the north? I would have thought that York was a better contender...

    Vending Machines on Trains

Had them on the long distance three car units here in Spain for some years, where there is insufficient room for a bar. They are efficient, reasonable cost and very successful.

Carmont (near Stonehaven) derailment - 12 August 2020

Good to see that, despite some skepticism in previous posts, the driver has effectively not been held at fault: 45 As the signaller was not aware of any obstruction on the line, railway rules did not require him to instruct the driver to travel at a speed slower than the maximum normally...

Schedules of Valencia (Spain) fruit and veg trains to Barking

My information came from the current Rail magazine: 1602148254 Ford have a factory at Almussafes, just south of Valencia and on the freight rail route. They ran (and still run, to my best knowledge) a weekly train from Ford at Dagenham to Ford Almussafes with car parts, which would return to...

Schedules of Valencia (Spain) fruit and veg trains to Barking

It takes 4 minutes per wagon. I guess they have a team so they can change a number at the same time but even so, with a container train of say, forty wagons, it probably takes about an hour. Despite what some history books say, Spain opted for the wider gauge because they were persuaded to do so...

Schedules of Valencia (Spain) fruit and veg trains to Barking

Many thanks, theironroad. I will have to cycle to Almussafes to see it depart. As it happens, there is a cycle route all the way there from where I live near the port of Valencia. I'd better charge my bike lights up! Thanks again.

Schedules of Valencia (Spain) fruit and veg trains to Barking

I live in Valencia, Spain, and have just discovered this freight service via DB. There are currently fifteen trains per week and I would love to take a picture of one to show my family in the UK. Can anybody here tell me how I can find the timings and schedules? Many thanks.
