It's a waiting game indeed now.

-Old Post Above, New Post Below-

Good morning all, did anyone here who reached DMI stage still have a DMI to do or is it safe to assume all DMIs are done and it’s now awaiting the email / call for the news?
My interview was on the last day of interviews, so it’s just waiting now.

I was told interviews are running until the 15th so we can expect to hear anytime soon

Lovely. Thanks brother. Hope we make the cut.

My interview was on the last day of interviews, so it’s just waiting now.
Ah lovely, hopefully it's good news soon.

Have you had yours? How do you think it went?
Felt it went well enough but one can never be too sure till hopefully the Good news.

I wonder if its worth sending an email in on Friday if there is no contact come then? I wonder what the average lead times after a DMI to success or fail feedback was for previous C2C candidates after the DMI if any are still around on here. Then again rail recruitment across the board is quite cumbersome, will all be a blur once contact is made.

Tbh its only been about two weeks, this is a tiny drop in the recruitment world. Will all go very fast however once that email or call comes in.

Does anyone what the wage is for shunt and mainline? I seem to remember 39k for shunt and 69k for mainline but been told that may be wrong?

That is fantastic news, so it seems this week is the week of answers.
Cheers mate, hopefully you get some positive news soon.

It was 69k when I left and they haven't had a rise since

Works out as about £38 an hour, £25 after tax and pension IIRC

I applied for both mate but they offered me shunter. I need to work out if I can afford to take a wage cut and also the opportunities to progress from shunter to mainline before I make a decision on it.
Nice one mate,

Thats great news to even get this far and get an offer you’ve done well congrats!

Well be keeping my fingers crossed and looking out for emails like a mad man now for the rest of the week myself

There is no guaranteed progression, it's a totally different job.

They will do all they can to keep you in the depot as to give you a mainline job still leaves them with a vacancy to fill.

I know they took 6 shunters to mainline so I presume they look internally before advertising externally for roles.

There used to be an agreement that 50% of mainline trainees had to come from the shunter grade but it expired at the end of the pay deal in mid 2023 (when they started striking).

I'd say you have 3 options

1. Take the shunter job if the job and pay is better then what your currently doing, do your time in the shed and then apply for mainline internally (need to consider how many people will be ahead of you, also if you do go mainline c2c have this thing where you have to go part time minimum for 2 years before they consider you for full time).

2. Reject it and hold out for mainline somewhere

3. Take the shunter job but apply for mainline elsewhere. This is what I did. Some people in my course are still shunters or part time mainline.

I think option 1 is what I’m leaning towards at the moment.

You'd probably be waiting a long time, I'd suggest you put applications in whenever a vacancy arises.

I mean I’d happily do the shunt role for a couple of years but I probably wouldn’t want to be doing it long term due to the wages on offer.

Same form my course, and I think I was three courses ahead of you!

Also the roster in the depot is naff. The mainline are on a 4 day week but in the depot you only get 2 days off per year more than someone who works in an office Monday to Friday. I found the shunter roster incredibly fatiguing after some time.

At least one more person did that after you left. Loyalty means nothing unfortunately and I'd always recommend doing what's best for yourself. We did and have both ended up in a far better position because of it, even if you don't always recognize me when I'm waving like a mad man to you as we pass each other at about 90mph:lol:

Are you really able to go mainline elsewhere as a Shunter for c2c? I'm only in for Mainline with them so wouldn't be of thought for me but that's interesting to know as SWR depot drivers can't due to only getting Driver Id's and not licenses.
